I remember him saying it was bronze and he had a new one machine. Is your boat out of the water? On my boat the bronze bracket is covered with glazing compound covering the bolts. Once the compound is ground away you can remove the bolts and the bracket can be removed. You have to remove the bracket to access the bushing.

I only know of one person that rrplaced the bushing on the bottom end of the rudder. He said once you remove the bronze fitting it has a cup like bushing in it that the end of the rudder fits in. ...more
