I want to pull my water tank and get access to the parts of the bilge underneath it.  Mostly, I want to clean the muck out of the keel sump.  Has anyone pulled up he sole to expose the tank fully? It appears I have to remove the cabinetry under the companion way to do this. But before I destroy anything I thought I would ask for some advice on doing it.

That sump is a real pain. We cleaned ours out when we repowered and the engine was out. Even then it was very difficult to get all the decades worth of gunk out of there. Belt dust, oil drippings, tools and who knows what all came out of there.  After we got it cleaned out, we installed a bilge pump on a stick that sits down in the sump. We still regularly pour in some cleaner.

If you don’t pull the engine/tranny, I’m not sure how you would get down there to clean it.  I think you could probably reach it with a long vacuum cleaner tube on a strong shop vac. Maybe repeatedly fill it with water and vacuum it out?

Sorry i can’t offer any better ideas!  Let us know if you learn some super trick.

But if not...

There is access under the hot water tank.

In your case it would be under the pump. It's a floor board like the one that accesses the water tank.

We installed a drain plug in the extreme bottom of the boat. We then used a hot water power washer to clean the keel bilge area. You will have to complete the process several times, eventually you can almost drink the water. You will not believe what comes out.
