Hey Capn, There a lot easier way to do that.
After disconnecting the engine from the trans and removing the engine
mount bolts you can slide it aft on the engine bed to pull it off the
transmission spline.
Get yourself an 18 inch piece of slotted steel U-channel. Use the 2
anthwartship bolts that stick down thru the overhead to secure the
channel across the engine room ceiling. They are 2 of the 4 bolts
that secure the binnacle to the floor of the cockpit. Mine stuck down
an extra few inches so I put the U-channel in place and ran additional
washers and nuts up onto the bolts to secure it in place.
Then I used a come-along and lifted the engine off the bed. A small
chain hoist would work well also. Tedious but simple. I swapped out
the engine in my 422 this way by myself.
