Sometimes when I power up my g2r I don't have the correct amount of
gain/sustain in Channel 1. I've noticed that if I toggle the dip
switches back and forth a few times the problem seems to clear up.

Used to only happen occasionally and would go away on its own after a
short while but now it occurs pretty much every time I power it up and
will stay in that state for a lot longer unless I toggle the switches.

Anyone else run into this? Anyone know if this is at all common?

FWIW, I run with dips set at 1 & 2 up, 3 & 4 down. On Ch1 Gain is on 9
with boost in. Ch2 is totally clean with boost out. (I use a G1 for my
lower gain/edgy sounds).

Thanks

Aerosol contact cleaner comes in two types; one leaves a lubricating
residue (Radio Shack, didn't have great results with that), others
don't. I got a nice-sized can at my local auto parts store and use it
almost every day on my 25 year-old car. And I know when I pull my G2r
out of mothballs, I'll need to knock the crunk off of every
connection, knob & switch which may require applying the spray from
inside the unit. If you are lucky, you may be able to apply the
cleaner to the front of the switches and work them up & down 'til the
cleaner gets in there. Otherwise, grab a screwdriver...

What I've found is that most of the problems I've had with my 20+ year old G2R  revolved around the main ribbon cable. It runs from the front input board (knobs, switches, inputs) to the effects loop board (rear). A guesstimate length of the cable is about 15 inches. Mine was retained with two short pieces of twisted wire (front and rear) that held the male and female connectors together. Once I disconnected the cable at both ends, I used some Caig Deoxit (my choice) on the pins and then carefully reconnected the cable. The pins on the cable are very delicate and easily bent so be very careful when reconnecting. All problem were resolved (stereo pan control not working, gain problems, poor internal effects, on and on). As Fyedeaux said all controls and jacks can contribute to G2R problems but the main culprit for me was the ribbon cable connections.

+1 on Caig Deoxit.  I don't own a G2R (G1.7 here), but it has solved a bunch of other problems for me.
