Startinghis career at the young age of 14 with the band Jamilah, Keith was clearly musical from very early on in his life. Although this band wasn't very successful on a grand scale, it prepared Keith for his solo career which began in 1984.
After touring night clubs and getting noticed by various record companies, he finally released his dbut solo album in November 1987 entitled "Make It Last Forever" on Vintertainment/Elektra Records. The biggest hit from his first release "I Want Her" clearly showed influences from New Jack Swing and was nominated for a 1989 Soul Train Song Of The Year Award, whilst simultaneously hitting #1 in the R&B charts.
His next two albums both entered the U.S Music Chart in the top 20, with his second album "I'll Give All My Love to You" coming in at #6. His third release in 1991 "Keep It Comin'", featured R&B legend LL Cool J on one of the hit singles.
Keith has still remained active in the modern era and has won many awards thanks to his contribution to R&B music. In 1997, he was awarded the title of Favorite Male R&B/Soul Artist following the release of his fifth and self-titled album a year before. In 2013, he received the Soultrain Lifetime Achievement Award, clearly showing his massive contribution towards the genre.
The crowd heading inside Lynn Auditorium on Saturday night was fixed up to the nines. Men looked fresh in suits and ties. Ladies were sparkling in sequins and spandex, hair done and makeup on point. The fancy, mostly 40+ crowd was there to see R&B singer Keith Sweat, who transformed the venue into a VIP lounge for grown and sexy folk during his provocative 2-hour concert.
American R&B/soul, singer-songwriter and record producer Keith Sweat has been active on the live circuit since 1975 and in this time he has learned a thing or two about how to entertain a crowd. His music is now celebrated and adored by fans of all ages and he is an accomplished performer in every sense of the word.
Considered to be an innovator of R & B/soul, his vocal shows no sign of faltering with age as the notes of 'Make It Last Forever' sound pitch perfect in the intimate setting. It is clear his music means a lot to people as the opening tones of 'Nobody' resonate around the room and the audience cheer loudly before supporting the singer throughout the track. He thanks his crowd of fans sincerely for this and tells tales of gigs gone by and his time as a performing artist.
'Twisted' also garners great reaction which causes Keith to smile broadly before beginning this R & B classic. The soul heavy 'I'll Give You All My Love' is the perfect closing ballad for a concert that could be described as being as smooth as silk.
It has been a great concert, beginning with Blackstreet with Teddy Riley A very excisting time with them singing all their hits and with a special show by Teddy playing for 20 minutes alone on stage the greatest New Jack Swing hits he produced from Heavy D to Michael Jackson Really a wonderful time
Following them Keith arrived with his tremendous hits along the way and it has kept us voiceless from Make it last forever to the great jam of I want her with the one and only Teddy on vocoder. He even did some Cameo stuff.

I saw Keith sweat in concert when he came to the uk back in the mid nineties along with kut klose, Roger Troutman & a very young unheard of girl at the time named "Brandy"! To date I can honestly say that it was the best concert I've ever been to and I see he's booked to come back to the UK in September this year, but don't want to get my hopes up with the current covid-19 pandemic. Hopefully it will go ahead so I can see the man I've been listening to for 35 years and loved everything he's done from gerald levert, l.s.g., kut klose, Roger troutman etc.etc.
Keith Sweat was his usual self and performed a great show. The venue was great and added to the personal touch to the performance. The show was great and with the additional appearance of Doug E. Fresh helping to take everyone back to true old school flavor. 'Wowie' was all I could say at the time. Keith then brought out all his hits and threw in some "LSG" flavor also covering one of Gerald LeVert's hit. The line up may change but you will not be disappointed. If you get the chance to see this show- GO!!!

First off, none of this rap/r&b/and so-called hip hop thats out now,can even hang with the 80s-mid 90sish music. Three songs ive seen left out of a lot of these r&b lists are:H-Town-Knockin Da Boots,Raab-Foreplay and Jodeci-If You Think Youre Lonely Now. Most of the hip hop/rap ones are fairly accurate with the exception of Ed OG and Da BULLDOGS-Gotta Have It.
Ive been searching for good songs for years. Modern songs dont have what these classics had. You can trully feel the love in these older songs. I like this post. for all those seeking for good songs, I also found a website . They have some good classics. But yea thank you for the great post. Love you

The story of Harlem in the late '80s is engraved in hip-hop lore. The crack epidemic was at full force and violence became rampant as the center of Black culture revivalism became synonymous with urban decay. Under these conditions, a young musical prodigy named Teddy Riley was steadily gaining attention with this new rhythmic sound. In a 1987 Village Voice article, writer Barry Michael Cooper christened Riley's sonic concoction the "New Jack Swing" and it wasn't long before the new sound became a movement.
With one foot in the streets and the other grooving with the larger American audience, New Jack Swing ruled the charts in the late '80s through the early '90s. It was the era of Air Jordans, Starter jackets, high-top haircuts, and crazy dance moves that all became a way of life, as did movies like New Jack City and House Party and TV shows like The Arsenio Hall Show and In Living Color.
Keith Sweat, who helped put New Jack Swing on the map with his 1987 album, Make It Last Forever, turns 51 this Sunday. To commemorate Mr. Sweat's birthday, we compiled the The 25 Best New Jack Swing Songs. Enjoy, reminisce, and do the Running Man when necessary.
The show's formal relationship with the genre started when Arsenio introduced the Teddy Riley-backed Wreckx-N-Effect back when the group was about to perform "New Jack Swing." The host called their music "the sound of the '90s" and "a combination of rap, hip-hop, R&B, and a lot of other grooves."
Wreckx-N-Effect killed the stage that night (no one was touching their Running Man), but the song itself was essentially an introductory manual to the style that was taking over the charts. Want to know why New Jack Swing was sweeping the nation? Want to know who's who in the genre? What about what to do when the ladies are spotted dancing at a party? Please refer to this 3:49 manual for instructions.
Part of what makes this song such a classic is how Janet's saccharine vocals and lyrics just ride along on that infectious drum pattern. "I'm not the type of girl who likes to be alone," she sings on the hook, and you have to wonder who'd be crazy enough to turn down such an invitation.
By 1992 Teddy Riley's new urban sound was dominating the airwaves, and Michael Jackson decided to update his sound accordingly. Dropping longtime producer Quincy Jones, he linked up with TR to make 1991's Dangerous. It was a bold move since Jones had produced a little album called Thriller, but "Remember the Time" showed once again that the King of Pop knew what he was doing.
Like many Jackson singles, "Remember the Time" felt less like a song and more like an event. Who doesn't remember the legendary dance routine in that nine-minute music video? And what about Michael's spontaneous ad-libs in the song's climax? There was so much going on to convey the simple feelings of nostalgia and joy, and MJ pulled it all off, making sure we never forgot.
