Hello,

I'm also struggling to instal pear on my computer. I downloaded pear-src-0.9.11.tar.gz from https://www.h-its.org/downloads/pear-academic/

I'm following the readme instructions included with the file. I unzipped the file and then navigated to it in terminal. When i try and run ./autogen.sh i get : no such file or directory: ./autogen.sh

When I run ./configure the command works.
When I run make I get the following error:

WARNING: 'automake-1.14' is missing on your system.

         You should only need it if you modified 'Makefile.am' or

         'configure.ac' or m4 files included by 'configure.ac'.

         The 'automake' program is part of the GNU Automake package:

         <http://www.gnu.org/software/automake>

         It also requires GNU Autoconf, GNU m4 and Perl in order to run:

         <http://www.gnu.org/software/autoconf>

         <http://www.gnu.org/software/m4/>

         <http://www.perl.org/>

make[1]: *** [Makefile.in] Error 127

make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1

When I use homebrew to install automake it says: automake 1.16.5 is already installed and up-to-date. Is this an automake version issue? I looked through the other questions and saw this same error in the "Pear installation MI MBPro macOS Monterey" thread, but I do not have an M1 chip. I ran arch and get: i386. I also checked to see if the "open using Rosetta" box was checked but did not see this option. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Best,
Chance
