Communications and Event Volunteer Opportunity
Pacific Environment is looking for a Communications and Event
Volunteer Sept-Dec 2010. The volunteer will provide membership, event
and outreach support to the Communications and Development team.
Pacific Environment is a non-profit organization based in San
Francisco that protects the living environment of the Pacific Rim by
promoting grassroots activism, strengthening communities, and
reforming international policies. For 22 years, we’ve partnered with
local communities to protect and preserve the ecological treasures of
this vital region. Together with partners in Russia, China, Japan,
Alaska, California, and elsewhere, we’ve shielded tens of thousands of
acres of old growth forest; we’ve won protections for endangered
species; we’ve forced oil, gas, and mining companies to heed local
concerns; and we’ve changed the way some of the world’s most powerful
financial institutions work.
The Communications and Event Volunteer will work with the team in four
core areas:
Ambassadors Program – Assist in the launch of our program for young
professionals interested in environment issues. Help develop
community, organize events, to organize, host and follow up.
Media – Assist with creation and distribution of press and outreach
communications and with media events.
Special Events – Assist with planning, logistics, execution and
hosting of donor and public events.
Social Media – Assist with expansion of our presence in online
communities like Facebook and Twitter, and to the blogosphere.

· Excellent written and oral communications
· Some college education is strongly preferred
· Tech savvy - skill with blogging, social media and web
software use desired
· Some journalism or communications experience preferred but
not necessary
· Interest in media, communications, marketing or hospitality
· Volunteer experience with non-profit organizations desirable
The 12-week term requires a minimum commitment of 16 hours a week, and
runs from September 13 to December 17, 2010. This is an unpaid
position available only for the period described. We are happy to
work with students interning for college credit.
