Several crimes have occurred in our neighborhood since I sent out the last report, yesterday.

1) A car was broken into at 20 Moore Street. The window was smashed and when the owner confronted the 2 men who then threw stones at him.

2) A motorcycle and a scooter were stolen from 35 Princeton Avenue. The scooter was found on Moore Street and returned to the owner.

3) An attempted house break at 41 Whitmarsh Street. No details.

What to do?

Be extra vigilant during this upswing. If you see people looking in driveways or any other suspicious behaviors,
call the police 272-1111 and your immediate neighbors. Make certain the officer makes out a report and document the report number.

Talk to and get to know your neighbors. Ask them if they want to be a part of a more official neighborhood/crime watch for Moore, Princeton, Whitmarsh, Updike, Peace and Plenty Streets. If they do, get their full names, street addresses, telephone numbers and e-mails and send them to me at doug....@juno.com. Let them know that I am compiling a list for alerting purposes. Get their information to me. keep their information for yourselves also.

E-mails are how alerts will be sent out.

We have to turn this around. The more neighbors watching and informed the better.

Neighbors,

WE HAVE A BIG PROBLEM STILL!

Two men tried to gain entry into my back yard early this morning about 3:00AM. I was awoken by them making noise and called the police. They were observed going into people's driveways up and down my block on Princeton Avenue.

Keep an eye out for any suspicious activity. Trust your gut that something is wrong and call the police at 272-1111. It's their job to decide. If something is in progress, call 411.

Elmwood Avenue at Princeton was full of activity last evening and it is spilling over into our neighborhood. What may I ask are people walking back and forth on Elmwood Avenue for at 3:00 AM? This activity must be addressed.

Neighbors,

WE STILL HAVE A BIG PROBLEM!

Again this morning... 7 police cars at this property including 2 unmarked cars with several detectives. An unregistered vehicle was towed from in front of the house the occupants fled but came back a couple hours later looking for their truck. The police are going to request that the house be boarded.

This activity immediately followed a break in at 34 Whitmarsh Street and an attempted break at my home on 103 Princeton Ave. One person was apprehended (on the roof as he went out through a sky light to hide) of 34 Whitmarsh. My tenant gave a very good description of the man he confronted in my back yard.... Hispanic male about 5 7 early to mid 20s short neat curly hair brown not black lean and muscular medium skin tone tattoo on side of neck and bicep wearing gray t shirt.

Are these activities organized or was it just coincidence that so many things took place at the same time today?

Be very alert to any suspicious activity. Keep an eye out for your own house and your neighbors and your block. If it seems wrong, it probably is. Call the police.  272-1111.

Everyone,

Casby Harrison and I appeared before Judge Rampone yesterday in Housing Court. He was very familiar with thelong  history behind this house and sympathetic to our testimony as neighbors. Casby, a lawyer, prepared a very helpful brief and I added to it with the focus being that the house was an unattended for nuisance which was impacting the quality of our living and deflating our property values. No one representing the estate nor family members attended.

The judge issued a board, clean and lien for both the house and the garage which was our request.

Success!

I know that several of you used PROVCONNEX or contacted Pleshette Mitchell to report your concerns. Armand Deschamps from Code told the judge he has had a "flood of complaints" on this house. Thank you for your support in this.

Pleshette has been extremely helpful and attentive to this request.

We may have just saved a valuable historic house in our neighborhood although we are not out of the woods yet as it sometimes takes the two city departments now involved in the order to carry it through.

We are keeping our fingers crossed that this house will be released from the estate soon so that it can be sold. We should have a block party that day!

Have a great weekend.

Neighbors,

WE HAVE A BIG PROBLEM!

Frieda Salisbury's house 127-129 Princeton is being occupied by the homeless. Frieda died last year and the house is being battled for in court by her heirs. In the meantime, the house has received no care, is unoccupied and has become a nuisance to our quality of life. Twice in 3 days the police were called to ask people to leave. The police reported that the house is filled with drug needles and people are taking things from the house. They have broken in the side door and are leaving the front door unlocked for easy entry. The police cannot arrest people for entering a vacant house unless they have a complaint by the owner. Does this make sense? These people know this and will just come back  unless the house is secured.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Please actively help us to watch this house and, if you see any activity, call the police at 272-3121

The yard has not been cared for for over a year with debris and a mattress in the side yard. I have contacted Pleshette Mitchell, the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services at
pmit...@providenceri.com to report this property, once again, this time with a request to board and secure. The report is below.

The garage of this house has been a magnate for prostitution for several years.

Please join our efforts by contacting Pleshette urging the city to take swift action to board and secure stating your concerns for this property and the impact that this is having upon our neighborhood urging her to take immediate action to board and secure this house and garage pmit...@providenceri.com  or make a service report on PROVCONNEX at http://www.providenceri.com/provconnex/service-request.

With your help, we can make a difference. Thank you.

I am very concerned that this significant historic house will be going the way of too many and will soon be stripped and rendered inhabitable. We saw this happen on Peace Street. The house was ultimately demolished but not until after two years of very nasty things happening in that house including two fires which impacted surrounding neighbors in profoundly troubling ways.

HELP!
