Hey Everyone,
This is a sweet possibility for someone and if you or someone you know would be a potential match, would you write me back, pass this on or contact Greg and Wendy at 778-9573?
I've been living at Lynx Creek Farm overlooking Lynx Creek (which flows out of Lynx Lake) since April and since I will be full time in school this fall and won't have time to do this and fully study, I'm moving with my sweetheart to Prescott to simplify in a certain way.
I've been cleaning for trade for living here and it's been great. The farm is a great feel and it's close to Prescott and Prescott Valley both. I've come to appreciate the family who owns and runs the farm and
I can say they're some of the best people you'll meet.
The family consists of Greg & Wendy Temple and their three children who are active in school, sports and a typical kids life. I've known them for about eight years and I can say that they have huge hearts and that they have been successfully running a vacation lodging (before that a bed and breakfast) business for well over twenty years here (so their brains ain't bad either).
It's too much cleaning for Wendy to do by herself, plus all the other vacation rentals they manage and kid-stuff they both do, so they built an addition onto their large ranch-style house several years ago (and I helped Greg put pergo floors down instead of new carpet in April). It's a mother-in-law style place with laundry, full bathroom, couple closets and about a 12x12 room which has a fridge, sink and small stove/oven in it; with an additional 4x14
sunroom/arizona room that is ready to be finished out with tile floor now. It overlooks the creek and is quite the place to spend evenings and mornings out on the deck...
There's also a large downstairs kitchen/study area where I set up bookshelves and do my studying and cooking/eating. That area used to be a separate apartment but now has storage in the bedroom... so I asked to use the kitchen, which they were agreeable to.
This is in trade for housecleaning when guests leave. Each room that guests stay in has a separate value for cleaning and the very reasonable "rent" is worked off with each cleaning.
Here's the breakdown:
The cleaning is flexible, typically able to be spread out over the week, though sometimes there is a "turn" where someone checks out and someone else checks in same day. Potentially there could be eight places to clean in a week, but that isn't
typical. I've done it and it's not bad at all.
Wendy is typically able to pick up slack if you have an appointment or some other obligation that prevents you from cleaning--or if it's just too much for you to do yourself.
The schedule is booked each week, so you'll get it on the weekend for the next week.
If you end up not cleaning enough to equal rent for the month, then you'll just make up the difference. That's not their preference. They'd much rather have you clean and even have you come out ahead at the end of the month if you do, because it frees up their time, which they truly need.
They're really great this way, and are flexible. Remember, they've been doing this for over twenty years with four kids (they did have four) for much of that time.
This is something that you can
definitely work another job while doing and save a good bit of money if you want to. You could also just have a lot more free time if you wanted to do that. It's also a great place to live with perks like fresh goat's milk (tell your friends--best price in town by half) and fresh eggs. If you're lucky, they'll even let you milk the goats once in a while.
Pets are usually okay, as long as they're good with other animals too.
So, what are you waiting for, write me back. I'll show you around after my last exam (next wednesday, the 28th) or call them at 778-9573 and tell them I sent you.
P.S. Lynx Creek Farm is a really lovely, totally unique and relaxing place to stay and the rates are surprisingly reasonable, especially if someone is planning to stay a few days. Don't be afraid to call them to find out what rooms they don't advertise on their website. (you
can tell them I told you, hehe).
Blessings
Peter
