Dear Sir or Madam,

Sub: International Day of Forests 2022, Tree Planting Activities:

Greetings from Greening Uganda. Under our FLAGSHIP Mass Tree Planting PROJECTS, Green Schools, Community Tree Planting, Degraded Forest Lands Restoration, and Trees For Tourism, for the 7th year, we will participate in the International Day of Forests 2022. Unfortunately, the last year 2 years, we did not do our mass tree planting campaigns due to COVID19 School Closers, Community & Business Lock-Downs. This March 21st upto May 31st, 2022, our activities will focus on Urban Schools, Urban places of Worship, Urban Hospitals, Budongo & Bugoma forest degraded lands, a total of 1,000,000 Trees, will be planted. This comes as a response to Climate Change to address the increasing heat waves, trees will be able to provide the most needed shade for the communities identified above. Similarly, planted trees will help carbon sequestering by capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and transforming it into biomass through photosynthesis.

IMPORTANCE OF TREES IN URBAN SETTINGS:

Trees help regulate the local climate, produce oxygen, improve soil quality, attract wild life, and absorb CO2! In this article we are focus on their Carbon Capture capabilities, and how much CO2 they actually absorb. Did you know, one mature tree is capable of absorbing 22kg of Carbon per year, and that means 1 million absorb 22 million Kilograms of Carbon from the air.

HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE IN 2022 IDF:

1.      As a POLITICIAN, you can engage your constituencies through radio & TV talk shows, town hall and community hall meetings sensitizing them about the importance of trees and tree planting, environmental/nature conservation, environmental protection, an CLIMATE CHANGE. Donate tree seedlings and participate in community/village tree planting activities, in schools and Churches etc

2.      As COMPANIES, you can identify and engage your neighbourhoods in tree planting activities together with your staff by DONATING the most needed seedlings. You can as well convert your OFFICE/COMPANY/FACTORY Compound into a little Island Forest in your locality by planting trees both ORNAMENTAL AND FRUITS

3.       As RELIGIOUS LEADERS, right from the pulpit, we can engage our CONGREGATIONS sensitizing them about the importance of trees and tree planting, environmental/nature conservation, environmental protection, an CLIMATE CHANGE. Donate tree seedlings and participate in community/village tree planting activities, in schools and around your Churches etc

4.      As NGOs & CBOs, you can engage the communities you serve through radio & TV talk shows, town hall and community hall meetings sensitizing them about the importance of trees and tree planting, environmental/nature conservation, environmental protection, an CLIMATE CHANGE. Donate tree seedlings and participate in community/village tree planting activities, in schools and Churches etc. No matter how good the projects you implement, without taking care of mother nature, one day mother nature will respond badly, and all the good work you have done over the years will go to waste. Let us look at the example of Northern Kenya 2 years drought, its economic impact on society, kindly visit https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/11/17/we-will-all-die-in-kenya-prolonged-drought-takes-heavy-toll Locally we have witnessed Mother Nature responding badly in BUDUDA after tampering with forest cover in Mount Elgon, we have witnessed the same, in Kasese in Rwenzori Mountain, flooding around lake Albert.

5.      As INDIVIDUALS, we all have communities or villages where we come from, you can donate trees to your villagemates, former school, village Church, you can also participate in our MASS Tree planting Campaigns e.g. Bundongo and Bugoma forests, for more details visit and register at https://greeninguganda.org/Projects/Bugoma_Forest_Tree_Planting

6.      As SCHOOLS/COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES, you can massively participate in planting more trees in all your compasses, turning them into little ISLAND forests. If you do not have more space for tree planting, you can engage into donating and planting TREES in your neighbourhood communities.
