Mary Kay,

Is this Community Friends Meeting unprogrammed, semi programmed or something else?

I've been in that building before but never to a service.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

John

Dear John,

Community Friends is a non-pastoral meeting with "unprogrammed" worship. That is, they have about one hour of "waiting worship," mostly silent, but those present are welcome to share a message (see more below).

On their website, they include this about Quakerism: http://www.communityfriendsmeeting.com/home/what-is-quakerism
And on the Quakers in Cincinnati blog, you can find out more about different sorts of Quaker worship: http://www.quakersincincinnati.blogspot.com/

Non-Pastoral Meetings have no paid pastoral ministers, and worship is conducted with no advance planning (unprogrammed). Worshippers sit in silent worship or "waiting upon the Lord" (prayerful meditation), and anyone present may be led to speak out of the silence (vocal ministry). Friends in these meetings may sing hymns, share joys and concerns, or make an offering (gift or contribution) before or after worship.

Peace,
Mary Kay

It's an unprogrammed meeting, John. No preacher or other moderator at all.
