Sadako Sasaki, a 12-year-old victim of the 1945 Hiroshima nuclear bombing in Japan, had an innocent wish in her last days -- she wanted to make a thousand origami cranes so that her wish to live would be granted. She could make only 644 such cranes in her nursing home as she succumbed to leukemia….Decades later, Tara Trust, an NGO from Goa, taking inspiration from the story of Sadako Sasaki, has launched The 1000 Crane Project, where it attempts to get underprivileged kids from Goa and other cities of India to paint 1,000 T-shirts depicting cranes.  These T-shirts would eventually make its way to Fukushima to the young victims of the catastrophic earthquakes and tsunami in 2010, thereby spreading the message of compassion…

ISLAMABAD, Mar 6 (APP) -Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday said Pakistan attaches high priority to promoting regional peace, security, prosperity and stability. The Prime Minister expressed these views in a meeting with outgoing Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, who paid a farewell call on him at the PM’s House here. The Prime Minister directed the outgoing Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, who has been designated as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India, to pay special attention to improving relations and seeking resolution of outstanding issues, notably Jammu and Kashmir…

 

*Bangladesh satisfied with Pakistan cricket security, SAMN, March 5, 2012

The head of the Bangladesh Cricket Board said Sunday he would try to bring international cricket back to Pakistan after voicing satisfaction with security arrangements in the country. Pakistan have invited Bangladesh to tour next month in a bid to revive international cricket in the country after it was suspended following the terrorist attacks on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore three years ago…
