Pakistan on Friday sought immediate supply of petrol from India through the land route to meet the widening deficit and flaring demand. New Delhi readily agreed in principle. “I met Petroleum Secretary G.C. Chaturvedi and discussed the issue of import of petrol from India,” Pakistan Secretary for Petroleum and Natural Resources Muhammad Ejaz Chaudhry told journalists on the sidelines of the Seventh Asia Gas Partnership Summit here.Both sides also discussed the supply of Indian petrochemical products to Pakistan. It was decided that officials of both countries will meet next month to finalise the modalities for making the supplies…

Addressing apprehensions within, Bangladesh has rejected the contention that the proposed Tipaimukh hydro-electricity project in Manipur would be harmful to it and has expressed interest in benefiting from it by deriving power. Sharing India's view, Bangladesh High Commissioner Tariq Ahmed Karim has said the project was "not the cataclysm waiting to happen", as being projected by a section in Bangladesh opposed to the plant….

“It is likely that Nepal will get the benefit of being a bulk consumer of Indian Oil Corporation and it will charge only 2.5 per cent marketing margin from IOC’s earlier proposal of five per cent,” said secretary at Ministry of Commerce and Supplies Lal Mani Joshi, adding representatives from Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and IOC are busy finalising the draft for the new pact. IOC has been charging the costs associated to refineries and duties, which is known as the Price Adjustment Factor (PAF) under its current price formula under the 2007-agreement between both parties…

Researchers in the United States say agricultural waste from coconut and mango farming could generate significant amounts of off-grid electricity for rural communities in South and South-East Asia. Many food crops have a tough, inedible part which cannot be used to feed livestock or fertilise fields. Examples of this material — known as ‘endocarp’ — include coconut, almond and pistachio shells, and the stones of mangoes, olives, plums, apricots and cherries. Endocarp is high in a chemical compound known as lignin. High-lignin products can be heated to produce an energy-rich gas that can be used to generate electricity…
