Does that seem fair to people?  Each text message sent or received costs me money, so I'm just trying to find a way to run this without losing too much money.  Then I'll be able to open it up to more people.  I'd love to hear feedback though.

My first reaction is that it is very fair. Sixty days is long enough to get a feel for the service and "hooked." The price seems definitely worth it. One problem I see with a trial period is that someone may sign up and start using it, but then stop after a few days. With this kind of service, a big obstacle is just getting into the habit of using it (as I'm pretty sure you're familiar with;) ). If someone wants to come back later, but their trial is up, they probably won't pick it up.

I'm no businessman, but what about having a free plan and pro plan? (And I'm not even saying that I would want that.) For example, the free plan could limit a user's ability to browse their timeline and methods of creating notes. And the plan could be a no-commitment month-to-month thing.

Also, how about a way to give a one-time gift which can be separate from the subscription?

Do you think people would actually want to do that?

Probably not most people. But if there were a way right now, I'd do it :)

Would that be the best way to help?

That seems fair to me. $12 a year is less than the amount of money I've spent on notebooks/journals to keep track of things, so I'm amenable to the pricing.  Could we have the option to pay for an entire year in one fell swoop?

I wouldn't mind flat out paying. Here are a few other options:
  • Donation based (like 750 Words)
  • Free for X entries per month but $Y/mo after that
  • Inbound (create) free but $X/mo for turning on outbound (reminders). It seems counter-intuitive that people would pay for this, but I've found the reminders from Peabrain to be very helpful and engaging. Would still recommend a trial period for outbound in this case.
  • Premium team features (with separate number for private and public notes). Kind of like idonethis

I'd pay for this site, maybe a bit more than $1 a month -- if there was a way to enter messages directly via the site or via email in addition to SMS.   I have 200 free texts and at 15-20 peabrain texts a day will soon put me in the next data plan tier, which costs  $15 per month.  That is not affordable.

I agree with adding a web option. I'm not worried about texting charges because I use Google Voice so Peabrain is effectively private Twitter for me. I'd be much more reluctant to use it regularly if I knew I was effectively paying a few cents every time I used it. Maybe the texting version could be free and there could be a charge (less than a texting plan) for a web interface or by email?

I just saw this discussion and then saw that I have 36 days left in my free trial, so it seems you've gone ahead and implemented a subscription fee, which seems totally fair.  I'm wondering though, is it possible to pay for 3mo/6mo/12mo at a time?  It seems a major pain to have to authorize a credit card transaction for $1 or $2 each month, when I'd prefer to pay in a lump sum.  I haven't clicked all the way through the "pay now" option, but is that going to be possible?

Thanks Buster, both PB and 750 make my graduate student life much easier!

I second the idea of paying for a year at a time. I'd definitely go that route if it was available.

Obviously implemented now. I think it's completely fair and thought it was reasonable when it popped up :)
