We have some major news to share with you… We are moving to Texas, y’all! *Please read the following letter for all of the information regarding this upcoming transition and details pertaining to the studio in Portland. Sometimes opportunities fall into your lap that you cannot refuse! With that said, we have been offered 10 acres of pristine Hill Country family property (and a home), about 25 miles outside of Austin in the sweet town of Dripping Springs, TX. Jessi and I have had a long standing dream of owning property and running a sustainable and eco-conscious retreat, inspired by a similar model on Orcas Island which we have visited for years. The opportunity came a-knockin’, and we have decided to grab hold and build out this dream: www.deercreekretreat.com The West Coast has treated us well, but we have been away from our extended family, and find ourselves and our boys needing that closeness and connection more and more. It will be a work in progress, so feel free to follow along as we make this dream a reality! I will be transitioning Steelhead Coaching to Central Texas and will continue to offer coaching services…more on that below! (For those on this list that are unaware, we have been living in Portland, Oregon for the last 6 years, growing our family of four and a small endurance coaching business: www.steelheadcoaching.com) This will be a lot of change for our family, and also the triathlon community in Portland, and I want to make sure that everyone who has supported me over the past 6 years will continue to thrive. With that said, we will be transitioning the studio to CBCG (Chris Bagg Coaching Group). Chris Bagg and Molly Balfe will continue to build the Portland Triathlon Community under the CBCG Banner by supporting PTC (Portland Triathlon Club), and taking over the coaching duties that Steelhead has maintained. They will also be providing a home for all of our current, local Steelhead Athletes and Coaches: Juliet Hochman Remy Maguire Caitlin Hudson "Molly and I couldn't be more excited at the prospect of continuing what Shawn has built. We've always felt that our two businesses, CBCG and Steelhead Coaching, have grown in parallel rather than in competition here in the Pacific Northwest. The process of merging the companies has revealed that Molly, Shawn, the Steelhead coaches, and I all share similar values about helping athletes become faster and happier, regardless of skill level. It's CBCG's goal to continue the initiatives that Shawn has put in place, and bring more value to what Steelhead athletes already enjoy. We're ecstatic about the opportunity, and look forward to serving the Portland triathlon community in a wider capacity." - Chris Bagg, CBCG Feel free to email Chris, Molly or myself (Shawn) directly with any questions regarding this transition. Both of our coaching groups are passionate about the sport of triathlon and want to continue it’s growth in a fun and healthy way. In addition, Jon Eng and Village PT will continue to offer Physical Therapy out of the Broadway location. Our Group Classes will be ending June 30th. We will be offering a Final Week of classes, which will be FREE to members and non-members July15th-19th! These classes will be co-coached by Steelhead and CBCG, so come on out and get to know a fantastic new crew! HERE is the schedule for the Final week. *those with Unlimited Class passes with have billing shut down 6/30 **those with remaining 10-pack passes will be refunded for unfulfilled visits
So, what is happening to Steelhead Coaching? Get excited to see the Steelhead Crew supporting athletes at races and offering services throughout the Central Texas region! While building Steelhead on the West Coast, I've had the opportunity to coach hundreds of amazing athletes. I've been coaching several professional athletes, amateur athletes to pro-status, athletes to top 10 overall finishes at Kona, co-founded an elite women's developmental program (www.steelheadselect.com) and helped 100's of athletes reach their goals in a healthy and positive way. Steelhead Coaching was born out of our passion for coaching endurance athletes, and originally grew out of Austin, years ago, with the help and encouragement of Beto Boggiano, Pure Austin and Pure Austin Coaching (PAC). I'm currently a USAT Level II Certified Coach, and soon heading to CO for a CRP Mentorship Program at the Olympic Training Center in July, while also pursuing a USAT Level III certification. I currently have experience working with all level of triathletes, paratriathletes, perform in-depth video swim analysis, run analysis, bike analysis and I'm also very handy in the world of strength and conditioning ;). As many of you know, strength and conditioning has been the corner stone of my entire triathlon coaching career. I feel that strength is a critical piece to maintaining ultimate levels of resilience and should always be included in every endurance venture. Many of you have worked with me in the past (in Austin and Portland), and I would love to rekindle as many of those relationships as possible, so please reach out to me with any questions you may have, upcoming events that you need help prepping for or if you just want to say hello! I am offering a “Former Client Incentive”, so shoot me a note and I’ll hook you up! The updated Steelhead Coaching Options are available HERE (*not yet linked to our main site) We are truly going to miss Portland and all of our friends and clients. Your support over the years has meant the world to us. This is not an easy decision in the slightest, but when your gut speaks to you.. you better listen! Remember to follow your dreams… If you have dreams of completing your first triathlon or killing your PR at an Ironman event, I want to be a part of that process and help you reach those goals. Let's break down those barriers in life and train together. Happy training and I'm looking forward to more adventures,
