I know that the meeting space at space that Robert Half Technology provides can be a little small for our groups' needs sometimes. The company I work at, CrowdCompass, would like to offer its space to host future meetings. CrowdCompass also hosts the Innovation in Motion meeting http://www.meetup.com/Innovation-in-Motion/. I am attaching a couple pictures from the last meeting that was hosted in the CrowdCompass office.

Current Space Pros:
  • desks
  • moderately comfy chairs
  • good projection screen
Current Space Cons:
  • parking downtown
  • far from a bar
  • limited seating
CrowdCompass Pros:
  • three parking lots and free street parking
  • free beer provided by CrowdCompass!
  • more available seating
  • better space
  • no security guard
  • the nearby bars are both close and good (Apex and Blitz Ladd)
  • eastside (2505 SE 11th Ave. (The Ford Building))
  • 75-85 person capacity
CrowdCompass Cons:
  • no desks

What do you think?

Cameras not provided.
We are going to be buying better chairs.
I think we can set the projector up better than shown.

The presentation space looks a little narrow. How much free beer are we talking here?

Oh, this is less than a mile from my house? +1

It is a bit narrow up front. We could also do a different layout if we need it to be wider. I just took a picture from the other direction to show how the room opens up.

I've been informed that fiber is currently being installed so we will would have better wifi than the current space.

Interesting.  Thanks, Sean!

The Ford Building is about 0.4 miles from my house, so obviously
that'd be pretty nice for me.  ;>

How's the air conditioning? Some of the recent meetings have been
pretty toasty with so many bodies in the room!

I can think of one or two potential objections. The largest is
perceived security -- it's on the border of a residential neighborhood
(Ladd's Addition) and a commercial/light industrial area. Parking is
on-street, and people might find themselves needing to walk several
blocks that may or may not be terribly well-lit. That *could* be
off-putting to newer or more casual members.

Also, didn't CrowdCompass recently lay off some people? Is there
anyone in the group who might feel a little weird about going back?

If anyone has other concerns they don't want to voice in public, feel
free to contact me off-list; I'll anonymize and forward them.

The CrowdCompass space has a new HVAC system and it is air conditioned, but I have not been here during the Summer. There are three parking lots available, and I have not had any problems with on street parking. Three attendees of PDXRB currently work at CrowdCompass, including myself.

The trains are loud, but they don't come by as frequently in the evening, or at least as far as I can tell.

Sean, thanks for the offer!

As a former CrowdCompass person myself, its a really neat space, if a bit echo-y (lots of concrete).  Sean can speak more to parking, but there's an indoor bike rack, and a parking lot around back.  Not sure which other lots as I don't drive!

I'm actually sitting the the CrowdCompass space now.  No objections from me, for sure, these are good folks.

See y'all tonight.

There are 62 people in the Robert Half room right now and it's already stuffy. I vote new space (30ft ceilings), especially because it'll be *really* nice to walk across the street to Apex/Gorditos afterwards and enjoy the summer evenings.

I would attend less just because it isn't downtown. Just me?

Not just you. Robert Half is at least a nice walk from the
Burnside-side of downtown. I'd be more inclined to relocate when the
weather *actually* gets stable and I can ride my bike the extra
distance away from home without worrying about rain.

Well, I know I'm not the only person who has attended meetings less frequently since they moved downtown, so that goes both ways.

Is there any reason we couldn't alternate locations? As long as Calagator is kept accurate, it shouldn't be too confusing.

+1 for proximity to good food, coffee, libations, and home.

I would appreciate a change of scenery. There is never enough free parking around the KOIN tower, so hopefully this would improve it. SE is closer to my house. More chairs would be nice. However, I could see how having a table to set your laptop would be missed. Maybe we could try it and see how people like it? We could always move back to the KOIN tower.

Not as convenient for those coming in from the West side via MAX, but
then again I haven't made it to a meeting for about 18 months now and
it looks like all the cook kidz live in SE now.

"Now"? I've lived in SE for 11 years. ;>

Seriously, though, the #4 goes right from MAX to this location. Not
*as* convenient, but still quite manageable, and the 4 is one of the
"frequent service" lines.

I'm behind the curve as usual ;-)
I think I'll stay right where I'm at: eventually the coolness will come our way.

It's interesting to ponder: in 2000 there were virtually no tech
companies or jobs downtown or on the East side of the Willamette.
Most of it was on the West side. Tek and Intel represented the bulk
of it. Things have changed a lot in about 12 years.

Though it is "frequently" late or really early, depending on your perspective. I'm already at CC so I'm biased of course, but I have to stop in downtown on my way home to Vancouver anyways.

I'd say +1 even though it's constantly freezing in here, the space is nice and roomy.

Any chance we could get a formal survey together?

One starts in SE, but moves to NE to have kids, and as such ceases to be a cool kid.

I like having a desk at the current location, but as was evident last night it's getting too cramped.  There was mention of free beer (?) in the initial posting, I think, so I could always make a desk-like platform atop my 3 beers  (of course, 4 would add greater stability).
