Howdy Y’all,

My career is taking me in a different, more time consuming direction (management) and I have to dial back my involvement in PDX Ruby. I will still be doing Ruby Coworking, but I probably wont be able to make it many monthly meetings – which precludes recording the talks – and I won’t really have time to be involved in a leadership capacity.

:(

Speaking of duties and leadership, there were a couple of other things I wanted to bring up:

1. I don't believe we have anybody rounding up speakers for the meetings. Dana and Levi are too occupied with other things and, though he kindly stepped up to help nail down the speakers for the March meeting, Chris isn’t going to be able to help with this in the future.

2. Joey reached out to me before the last meeting and let me know that he is no longer with Confreaks, so he won’t be in a position to record the talks either. If somebody wants to step up and record, I would be happy to perma-lend my gear to the effort and show that person the ropes.

3. While I still think sponsorship is important, I’m not going to be in a position to do anything about this conviction. If somebody else wants to make this happen, I’d be happy to introduce you to Mark Dove at Airbnb, who really wants to get Airbnb involved in our community (in any way they can, really, but sponsorship seemed the most viable to me).

Sorry to hear that man, but congrats on the new role.  Management can be a lot of fun.

I would be down to help out with recording and I could use that same gear to record the talks at rubyonrailspdx.org.  If that's cool with you we can meet up at the next co-working and you can demo the setup for me.

Good luck in the new position.

Cheers.

Awesome, sounds like a plan.

One item I just noticed in your last video email you typically record the lighting talks.  Is this a common practice? I was not under the impression we did that every month.

If we would like to continue to record the lighting talks, I may have to step down due to family time commitments.  During many of our meetings, especially the longer events, I have to leave early and will not be able to cover the lighting talks.

Thoughts everyone?

If you’re the only person who’s up to record and you can just do the regular talks, then I think that’s fine.
