reflow 2011 Macbook Pro GPU

My Mac just died and it looks like I'll have to reflow my 2011 Macbook Pro GPU according to users having it die in a similar fashion: http://makestuffdostuff.blogspot.com/2011/01/reflowing-gpu-on-macbook-pro.html?m=1
I guess I'll try the heatgun method at the new makerspace tomorrow unless there is a better way. Any tips for this problem?

Reflowing BGA is very tricky but that method seems about as solid as you can get without a reflow oven.  You've got nothing to lose. :)

I brought in a laser thermometer you can use. Also, a foil shield helps a lot. I think we had a ~80% success rate on some older models with the same issue.

Yeah, the screen glitched like that and rebooting seemed to fix it until now. Here is a professional way to fix it:

Probably way overkill, but cool machine! I'll bring some aluminum foil.

Just as an option.  I Just had it happen to my 2011, apple replaced the board for $310 with labor.
