Hi all!

I'm new to Portland and I do software development. It would be great
to organize other tech lunch. Is there anybody up to it?

love,

Hi Gaba,

Welcome to Portland!  I haven't seen a geekchix lunch announcement in a while. Dawn Foster has usually organized the lunches, but she's been pretty busy lately.

You are welcome to come to Code N Splode, which is an all-women coder's group.  We meet once a month on Tuesdays.

Hey everyone!

As Sarah mentioned, I've been pretty busy lately and haven't organized
a geekchix lunch in ages :)

When Gaba contacted me asking about this group, I happily handed the
reins over to her to see if she could get something going again. I'd
also love to attend - I just don't have the bandwidth to organize it.

While we're mentioning other cool get togethers for women, I should
mention #boozetues. It's held on occasional Tuesdays and is women
only. The best way to find out about it is to monitor #boozetues on
Twitter and some of them are posted here: boozetues.wordpress.com

Regards,
Dawn

I'd love to join!

August is tough with vacations, but we start small. Or we could give
ppl lots of advance warning and get Sept. on the calendar.

I'm now down in Park Blocks. I can recommend Peem Kaew. It has lots of
options for everyone, regardless of dietary needs.

Something I was doing before for tech lunches was to have somebody
speak about a (tech related) topic or at least iniciate/coordinate a
discussion about it. Maybe that is something people could be
interested in here.. The only issue with that is that we would need a
place where we can talk and maybe present something. Do anybody here
know about such a place? Maybe somewhere in downtown.

Hello, everyone!

Did we ever get a lunch on the calendar? If not, what works for people? Should we pick a day every month so we can guard it and make a rule that we need 3+ people?

I, selfishly, vote for Pearl/Downtown, since that's where I am now (Puppet Labs). But I'm open.

Mondays are out for me, but I'm working from home on Wednesdays most weeks. Any other day is hit or miss.

Looking forward to the re-start of geekchix lunches!

Let's get this on the books!

How about Thursday, Dec. 1st at noon at Peem Kaew on NW Park. It's a ways out but that we we can all plan for it and guard the time.

I would love to participate with this group, but it may take a little
extra to do so most of the time.

I have a back condition that prevents me from using standard chairs. I
can sit on bench seating with my feet up. Or on floors (traditional
Moroccan, Indian, or Japanese anyone?). If you know that the lunch
will be at such a place, and you note it, expect I will be there!

Thanks!

Great! I don't think we'll need the back room table at Peem Kaew but I'll try to get there a little early and hold a table in the main dining room.

Collective Agency might be a possibility for this. If you're still
interested in doing lunch time tech talks, let me know.

Also keep in mind that we do technical talks at Code n Splode, a local
user group for women in technology. We meet on the 4th Tuesday of the
month at 7pm. Due to the holidays, the next meeting is 1/24:

I run the group, so feel free to ping me with any questions.

Yes. When I wrote this mail I didn't know about Code n Splode. I'm in
Uruguay now coming back mid December. I will try to make it to the
next techical talk. Also would love to attend the pdx geek chix tech
lunchs when I'm back in town.

This is great! Looks like we'll have between 8-12 people so I've gone ahead and reserved the large table in the back of the restaurant at Peem Kaew.

The address is:
323 Northwest Park Avenue

There's plentiful, metered street parking if you need that.
