Hey guys,

I was wondering if you guys would like to have a 45 minute, "10 steps
to optimizing PostgreSQL" talk at one of your meetings?

+1

Went a short ways down that path recently, and would love to hear
more about it.

I vote no, but I'd be open to an "intro to PostgreSQL for the
Djangonaut" or similar. Maybe you could mix in an intro to Postgres
for the uninitiated?

I'd be up for it, but I think it would be a better fit if it were
tuned to Django usage somehow, as opposed to general cases that may
not apply. Is that something you'd still want to do?

Well, the idea that Django has some level of uniqueness in its
optimization model for the database seems flawed. I mean the talk
would be similar if not identical for Turbo Gears, Rails, Catalyst
etc.. The type of talk I was envisioning was:

* I am a Django Developer
* I know exactly snot about being a DBA
* What are the 10 best bang for the buck parameters I can change to
make PostgreSQL go zip and how do I decide what to change those
parameters to?

I think that this is an interesting talk, especially if we can combine
it with some other talks on performance and production setups. If
there are any specific Django things - any quirks of the ORM, any
benefits you get in Django using Postgres over something else - that
would be great to hear about.

A meeting devoted to production deployments would be a good fit for
this and something that I would like to see happen - any thoughts?

I think that would be a good meeting but as a note, I can easily spend
an hour talking about those 10 things. We may want to turn it into a
series.

I'd love to hear the talk - sounds useful, and cross polination is never a bad thing!

Sorry, I totally dropped the ball on this one.

JD, if you're still available let's plan on the PostgreSQL talk, and if anyone has something they'd like to talk about for 5-10 minutes, we can start with that as a warm-up. A library, a technique, or a demo would all be great.

It's a bit longer than 5-10 minutes, but I could give a talk on simple
offline processing with supervisor and beanstalkd in Django.
