Has anyone on this list made the transition from web (or another type of) development to devops? What would you share about the experience? Would you be willing to let me buy you a beer/coffee/other brewed thing and pick your brain about it?
Background: I was the random new person at tonight's meeting. I came because I've been having this idea for a while that I want to get away-ish from pure web development and more into devops, and tonight was another data point in favor of that for me. There are a lot of reasons, I think personality-wise I'd get more satisfaction out of making infrastructure run well than keeping up with the latest JS UI framework news, I think it'd be more of a cultural fit (or anyway I'd be able to stop explaining what a tiling WM is every time someone sees me change windows :) ), etc, but I can also tell that even coming from being the kind of person who gives
this talk there'd be nontrivial retooling to do, so I'm curious about how other people have made the change.
