Fellow nerds,
And I mean this in the most endearing way possible!
Case in point: It is fresh hop season in Oregon! Anyone else getting tingles?!
There is no other place on this round planet that has as many excellent breweries so close to the source of one of their most important raw materials - and then literally uses them raw! - as Portland. Not in Washington. Not in Idaho. Not in Germany, the UK, Czechia, Slovenia, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, or any other hop-growing region on Earth. Think about that for just one moment… say what you will about what green hop cones picked a few hours prior to use in beer does to the finished product according to your preferences, or about the annoying “hype” surrounding fresh hop beers during these few weeks, or even what “fresh” means versus “wet” or whether the best method for adding these raw herbs is when the wort is hot or the beer is cold… fresh hop season in Portland, Oregon is a singular and unique experience in the beverage and culinary world.
And we live here, so we are going to embrace it! Please join us at 7:00pm this Thursday, September 4th at:
Breakside Brewery & Tasting Room
5821 SE International Way
Milwaukie, OR 97222
Breakside is, in many people’s opinion (including mine, fwiw) the gold standard when it comes to the presentation of fresh hop beers. Because of the agronomics of hops, it’s a little difficult to predict how many fresh hop beers will be available at any one brewery at any given time, but the first week of September is a pretty solid bet for at least two or three to be ready on-draft at Breakside! And for those not as into the raw green flavor of fresh hops, there will be 20 or so other taps of Breakside beer available for you. It’s a win-win!
Hope to see you all there!
Cheers,
Ian
