Hi All,

As most of you know, as the weather gets nicer, we like to meet in Westmoreland Park https://maps.app.goo.gl/cyvEpsEy7fmwenUJ6  See below for my crude markup, LOL.

Thursday 6/19 - Juneteenth is our next meeting. 6:30 for the exBEERiment. Bring a smartphone to record your answers.

Please bring a tasting glass and water, as well as something to keep your beer cold. As always, everyone is welcome. Feel free to bring snacks. Let Ian know what you brought as he will help maintain the flow.

See you then!
Cory

Hey friends,

I just wanted to toss it out there that I've had a couple side conversations with members who have expressed that it's a bummer that this meeting is right before Heart of Cascadia.

Due to our desire to keep competitions fair and unbiased with so many judges in the club, we have usually avoided bringing entries to upcoming competitions to meetings. This month the meeting is 2 days before the competition. It sucks to sacrifice the valuable, direct feedback PBC provides while their IPA is in peak condition.

Judge assignments for Heart of Cascadia are posted, so I'd like to ask the group to weigh in on the prospect of bringing our IPAs and giving judges the choice to not taste beers that will be in their flights less than 48 hours later.

What do we think, PBC?

Cheers,

Russell

Please bring them! If anything, I can try them all since I'm not judging 😈

I think abstaining from tasting a style you're about to judge at the comp is fair though.

I'm not judging at HOC and if a judge feels like they might be influenced, it's up to them to recuse themselves, which Tarn and I have done in the past. That being said, it's also a numbers game if that judge gets your beer.

Also also, Tarn and I are familiar enough with the area brewers that when something is presented to us and we're pretty sure we know the brewer, we just have to be fair and unbiased. I trust the integrity of our local judges.

That being said, I would think that it's probably not a good idea for anyone to bring the tree beers you're submitting for Pout Bout on Sunday to the meeting on Thursday, because literally all of us are going to be the same people judging on Sunday. I'll let Cody weigh in here if he disagrees.

I'm judging and happy to taste or not taste those. American and English IPA's. I'm gonna judge by taste and not the brewer anyway.

Agreed, bring em, and if there's a conflict don't drink if you're a judge
