I'm going to miss Bill he had become a regular part of my daily life.
The takeover of the Howard Stern program was all so sudden. So far I'm
not impressed. If Bill lands back somewhere in the local area I will be
listening. Anybody have anything to say about Bill?

Yeah!

I enjoyed listening to Bill Prescott here in Portland, and
when I moved to Sacramento briefly in the mid-80's, where (I think)
he was known as "The man with no thumbs".
Seems like KUFO could've given him the courtesy of a "So Long"
show, or even week.
Hopefully, he'll move to another local station. In the meantime,
we're stuck with Butt Bongo Bonanza! Or maybe not... -TR

Bill is a crappy guitarist, poor singer, and all in all not a
phenominal guy. But he was a good DJ. Stern doesn't do anything
with a local interest, and now there's no decent music to listen to
when I wake up at 5 or drive to work at 6. All in all, I think
KUFO made a bad move.

I have heard many a DJ lose their show over the years, and not once have
I heard a station give a DJ a "So Long" show. One day you wake up and
they are no longer there. Also radio stations change format with no
warning; imagine being used to rock and roll and waking up to classical
one day; it happens. The only constant in life is change. KUFO will
lose some listeners because of this, but I'm guessing they will pick up
a whole new listening audience. There are always these funny little
things called CDs and tapes to listen to if you don't like the format on
the radio.

Ironically, this did happen, to a station at, (drumroll) 101,
KRCK back in '88 or so. KRCK used to be the only Rock station
in town, then the next morning (Jan 1) it was classical. Lasted
about a year I think, then KUFO was born. Now, there is no
rock in the morning, just hot air.

Actually the only time I ever listen to the radio is when my
alarm goes off in the morning. On the way to work I always play
tapes or CD's. The only exceptions is bad weather days I listen
to 1190 so I can hear road reports. Otherwise there's too much
commercialism for me. I also stopped watching television for
the same reason.

KUFO will more than likely pick up a new audience, but they will
likely lose 90% of what they had. I only had it on so I could
hear rock & roll, not bs.

What, your dial doesn't go down to 92.3? Or are you not labelling
KGON as "rock"? KGON has been rock since before the time I got my
first FM radio.

KGON is gone too?

They went talk radio with Mark & Brian quite a few years ago.

For quite a few years now. I'm up at 5, I scanned the entire
dial when my alarm went off. Closest thing to rock I could
pick up in Beaverton was KISN, 50's & 60's rock. KNRK and
The Beat dont seem to reach me here on my alarm clock. :(

Oh, man. I thought me and my fiancee were the only ones that remebered
that! I remember listening to the DJ on the day that happened. He said
something like, "I was here when we went Rock n Roll and I'm here when
we go classical."Ironic isn't it? 10 years later the same fucking
bandwidth/station 101.1 makes a moronic move...

Me too. And what CD's do I play? The 80's metal classics!

I e-mailed Prescott in support when it first happened. His admittedly
canned response did contain some encouraging news that he will resurface
on the airwaves soon...

Peace...

Actually, there's a lot of us here who remember. And actually,
now that I think about it, it was in '85 or earlier that they
went classical. I guess once a decade that spot on the dial has
to get screwed up? :)

I mix, 60's, 70's, 80's 90's. All Rock & Roll/Metal, occasional
forays into lighter stuff (blues, alternative, etc).

Good for him. I'll listen to his show if he plays the same
kinda music, but if he gets onto KWJJ I just can't do it! :D

Actually it might have been a year or two earlier, since I was living
with my parents over Christmas break when it happened. Do you remember
the song that he played after the comment you quoted? Very appropriate,
I thought: "You Can't Always Get What you Want" from the Stones.

I was an alternate DJ there for a year, even tried my own show
once. Havent listened lately, I prefer hard rock, and usually
they play more of a world sound. Nice, but not my thing.

Heh, hadn't heard about that. Yeah, I think it was '84/'85.
I was still in High School when it died. ;)
