Our client, located in the greater Portland area, seeks a Software
Engineering Project Leader or Supervisor.

They manufacture products destined for a global market. While the firm is
well regarded for its marketing, engineering and production capabilities
within their industry, there is much to be done to get their Information
Systems capabilities up to “best of class”.

The person chosen for this position will be part of the team engaged to
redefine the IS organization. They will be part of the core force, the brain
trust of the soon-to-be-re-engineered IS organization. While relevant
systems-development skills are the technical abilities sought, an equally
critical skill for this position is superb communication talent, and an
ability to influence others to change. The role is not created to “babysit”
the existing scenario; it is created to significantly change the way in which
IS is structured, and how it is perceived by the user community. This will
be an individual with adept interpersonal skills who has demonstrated an
ability to “lower the level of the water” to identify problems/opportunities,
to challenge existing norms, and to get things done. It is a fast paced
environment, just short of “ready-fire-aim”.

The Software Engineering Project Leader is slated to move into a key
supervisory role given they prove their mettle in their initial assignments.
The position is critical to morphing the IS shop from being internally
focused, to a service/client centric, organization. The person will lead
projects in most functional areas of the business. They will be involved in
instilling a new sense of service and technical ability to people assigned to
their projects. Related, the position is chartered to “relentlessly pursue”
the user population with the objective of getting them to validate systems
and systems development directions. Today there are myriad hardware and
software platforms. A key role coming in to the position is to work with the
IS Director to sort out, then reengineer, the application systems.
Candidates will come with: significant success in applications development;
leading and developing junior applications development people; a superb
reputation with users for both functional knowledge and service delivery;
extensive experience with systems development methodologies, project
management tools, rapid prototyping, proof-of-concept methods, and
programming languages (C/C++, and JAVA). The perfect candidate will be known
for their resilience and their ability to; lead complex projects from concept
to well received system; influence others to improve or change; develop trust
and open dialogue with the user community; not waver in pursuit of improving
efficiencies and capabilities of staff and systems. While we’d prefer
someone with ten or more years of increasingly responsible and successful
experience, our client is willing to invest in development of an exceptional
lesser skilled candidate.
