I tried to post this earlier and, although Mozilla said it sent it and
moved it to the "Sent" folder, it never showed up. I'd hate to think
ComCast is sensoring news they don't want us to hear...

The original post that was lost..?

Was clicking through the channels Monday evening and came across a piece
about ComCast and their new privacy policy. This policy affects both
cable television and cable internet subscribers. ComCast plans on
sharing the following with pretty much anybody who will pay them for the
info:

1) Your Name
2) Your Mailing Address
3) Your Email Address
4) Your Age/Sex
5) Your Credit Card Number (that you use to pay your ComCast bill)
6) Your Social Security Number

This, combined with the new rate hike, and the fact that I'm getting
SPAM like never before has me thinking it's time to tell ComCast they
can kiss my backside.

What do you think?

If you are in Multnomah County, Comcast may not be able to sell your
data.

Check the "opt out" info in your June bill insert, and look at the
Multnomah County Cable Regulatory Agency web page. Reportedly, the terms
of the franchise agreement -- a contract -- between Mult Co and Comcast's
predecessors two times removed [Liberty Cable (but I think there was another
name _before_ Liberty cable, too) on the west side, and Paragon on the east
side, IIRC] prohibit such disclosures.

David Olson from the Cable agency has been quoted in the Oregonian in
the last 3 - 5 days to that effect, and to the effect that the agency will
sue to prevent such disclosures.

As to kissing Comcast goodbye, thats always your call and your option
any and every month.

I am in weird part of SW Portland where I am too far from the telco
central office and have too many repeaters / splitters in the copper to be
able to get DSL.

If i want high speed up load and download, I don't have an option.

You may be in a better position as to high speed options.

If you are not in Mult county and are concerned about the privacy
issues, you might want to change.

But be sure you go through www.dsl.reports with your address and phone
number to be sure that DSL is a viable option at your location before you
tell Comcast where to go.

Two way cable is an option, BTW. Expensive, latency is horrible, but it's
out there.

I don't think People realize the deal they currently get from cable. @home
oversold the service, (hence the bankrupcy) and to retain customers AT&T and
Comcast has had to keep the service at the same or better levels. When you
pay for 1.5mbps for $50/$60/$70 and higher you are getting a *very very*
good steal. At work I manage T-1's with the same DL and practically the
same uptime and we're paying many many times more. Sure no guaranteed TOS
or reverse DNS or multi-IP's or hosting with comcast, but really, those
things are trivial. What one *should* be complaining about is why can't
they offer a *slower* service for *less* money. I know at least 10 people
that suffer with dial-up because they think $20/month is all they will ever
need pay for internet. Even if they had double the speed at the same price
point through comcast they would be ecstatic.

Actually, there is a huge difference between the two services. First, T1 is
a dedicated 1.5/1.5, having 1.5 down isn't the same as T1 because it is not
constant, it varies on who is online, who is doing what online, if the sun
is up, or if you need something ...

Just a point of information. This thread has not previously
discussed Comcast's pricing structure, or the "value" of Comcast's services
and those issues were not topics until you injected them into the thread.

The issue under discussion is Comcast's apparent policy of selling
subscriber personal identification and financial data to third parties.
