Howdy folks,
I'm recently getting into rust and its been great fun. I've talked to Tom Lee about the group a bit and he said that it only gets put together when he can find a speaker.
I'm proposing a slightly different setup. I think it will continue to be hard to find speakers, considering other groups I help organize have trouble with this in well established languages/communities. What we can do while the community builds up is have regular hack nights. If we have a presenter then we can start with that of course.
This gives us the ability to build a community around rust in Portland. I'm happy to volunteer to help organize those sorts of events. In the PDXNode community we call them Code & Learn to encourage beginners to come as well. I'm relatively certain Tom and I can get New Relic to sponsor space, we'd just have to come up with a regular night to do it. I propose second thursday each month.
TL;DR: Lets have a hack night with optional presenter each month on second thursday at New Relic.
