Hi all,
We are finally selling Type Foundry's Otari 24 tracks. Potentially open to selling one, but would strongly prefer selling them together. If you want to record to tape, these will keep you going for a long time....
Thanks,
Jason

This is a rare & unique opportunity to own two functional Otari MTR90 MKII 2" 24-track tape machines, both in excellent condition. These machines run at 15 or 30ips, and are known for being dependable workhorses.
Parts for these are becoming scarcer and scarcer. With this purchase, you will have everything you need to keep a solid tape machine running for many years without having to spend time, energy and money sourcing parts.
The second machine is in good enough condition to be a complete backup machine. So no work stoppage from a problem, just switch them out, swap a couple of audio cards, and you’re good to go. Or, if an audio card has a problem, or the transport breaks on one machine, you can also quickly swap parts from the other machine.
Included in this offer: two complete machines with all audio and control cards, two remotes & cabling, one auto locator, one MRL calibration tape (1k,10k, 100Hz, 15 & 30ips, $600 new from MRL), two manuals, two extender cards for maintenance, two power cords (original connector power cables are hard to find), spare reels, and lots of miscellaneous spare parts.
Full condition description for each machine below. Both were thoroughly evaluated with a tech before being stored.
$9500 takes home everything. Serious inquiries only please. Showings can be arranged. No trades. Offers considered.

Extender card for maintenance & manual
MRL calibration tape 355nwb/m (+6) - 15 & 30ips, 1k, 10k, 100hz tones at each speed. $600 new. Purchased new from MRL in 2014. Has not seen much use.
Assessment with tech: Playback mostly solid (see below), record solid
Known issues:
Transport loses tension when first engaged/loaded - at least with the MRL cal tape it did. Not on the full-sized reel of tape. Easily remedied by holding up the reels when engaging the transport so the machine doesn’t entirely lose tension. Tech says he remembers this being an issue with this machine in the past. Transport plays totally smoothly, so it’s only really when you’re engaging the transport when first loaded.
Channel 8 100Hz about 2dB down on playback - can be fixed using low frequency comp setting and calibrating the LF response manually.
