Hey All;
We have been mulling over the best way to communicate among the group participants w.r.t. cases, ideas questions etc and have landed on this forum as a starting place.

Regarding its functionality, pitfalls and degree of malleability......well, your guess is as good as mine and so let's find out together.

From what I gather, I have set it up such that any member can post and reply if they have been added to the group and anyone can send a request for inclusion in said group. Anyone on the net can view topics but cannot view participants contact details. On first pass, it seems as though a Google account might be a pre-requisite for sign-in which could be an early pitfall......or maybe not.

Feedback will be key in finding a conduit which works for everyone in terms of functionality, ability to customize (such that message overload doesn't become an issue) and in honing the forum's use and settings to that which is deemed appropriate by participants.

If you have received this message, please take a moment to reply to this forum thread with a quick acknowledgement of receipt and any initial thoughts. Bear with us as we iron out creases moving forward.

Cheers to you all.
Paul Columb

Attempting a reply to the thread via email, from a non Gmail account.  :-)

Thank you for setting this up! We'll test it and figure it out!

Wonderful Kris......reply received and has also appeared on the Website's discussion tab
And so it seems a Google account is not a requirement to participate in an existing thread. Could someone without a Google account attempt to start a new thread?
Testing 1,2,3.....etc
Cheers, Paul

Hello there

Thank you Kris and Paul

I had attempted a test as well and it looks like it did not go through.   And when I attempted to reply to Kris  the site said I did not have permission....

I wonder if we should just have a google group and interact that way?

Nora

Hey Nora. It is a Google Group, but it is not supported by the ‘embed’ feature of Google sites (for some strange reason) and so you have to follow the Google Group link top right (by ‘read only’) to be directed to the group.
I just received and approved a membership request from Kris and so each member might have to do the same to participate.
Hang in there all. We’ll get it sussed!!
Cheers. Paul.

Did everyone receive this message from me?  I replied to the group email and it should send to everyone who's signed up.  And when I click on the address it says the group has 17 memebers and I can see each individual's names and emails as well.

Got your reply Brandon. Settings currently have members’ names and contact email visible to other members only. I can change that if folks prefer.
I’m thinking that in order to kick start a new thread one has to be signed in to a Google account. Brandon…..if you sign in, are you able to start a new thread/topic?
Thanks.  Paul

Hey All;
Last email of the day regarding this.........promise.

Having our forum through a Google Group or similar as an alternative to a multi-address email thread offers a few advantages, namely;
- single point-of-contact member update in place of periodic updating of email list forwarded to participants.
- participant control of notification level and opt in/out as desired
- a catalogue of all conversation threads maintained on the site for reference

However, participation in a Google Group (should you wish to start a thread) requires a Google account (as is the case with other platforms e.g. Yahoo). It is possible to make a Google account without Gmail if that is preferable. Once signed in you can request membership to the group (all on this thread have already been added) and start posting. If posting a new thread, please include a heading which clearly reflects the topic to be addressed for future reference and if addressing cases, please adhere to HIPAA guidelines.

And so a few questions;
- is everyone on board with Google Groups as a conduit for our conversations/forums (and the associated requirement of Google membership)?
- settings currently allow members (not the public) to view all members' names and email addresses; is this something we're ok with or should I change the setting to hide contact info?
- settings also allow anyone on the web to view threads; this can also be changed to members only.
(The bottom of each message you'll receive via your email will delineate current privacy settings)

The Google Group can be accessed anytime on the discussion tab of our website.....just hit 'Use Google Groups' on the top right.

Cheers,
Paul C
