Greetings, PDX OSGEO group! I'm Jim Proctor, a geographer and professor at Lewis & Clark College, and along with my colleague Alana Rader am exploring
GeoNode as a possible CMS for spatial data in conjunction with a pilot community GIS project in spring 2026.
I'm writing to explore what you know of hosting options. I am moving a few (LAMP-based WordPress) sites of my own over winter break to a new host; this is fairly simple stuff. But GeoNode seems ideally to require
Docker-based installation, which with my new host would require their
cloud-based server solution, a significant step up in complexity relative to what I've done to date.
I see some commercial GeoNode hosting options available...but we are working on a basically zero budget. Might other solutions be possible that you are aware of? Can multiple orgs conceivably share a single GeoNode instance? (Our initial storage/bandwidth requirements will be fairly small; I can provide a better estimate in a few wks.)
Alana and I are hoping to initiate development over our winter break from mid-Dec to mid-Jan, so any initial thoughts welcome, thank you!
[And PS, our apologies for missing your Dec 10 get-together, as we have a competing event on campus...]
