We'll be doing another one next month – April 20th. Preliminary details here: http://calagator.org/events/1250463885

I believe the plan is to have Mele give another introduction to OSM at about 1pm. As an alternative to every one trying to figure out something on their own, we thought we'd have specific target areas for those who want to do that.

Options Mele and I tossed out are:

Building Tracing
Adding Park Amenities
Trails
Campground Details

If anyone has any other suggestions for the edit-a-thon, let us know. Additionally, if there's anything you'd like to see happen at this edit-a-thon, throw out there. Let's make this thing work.

Looking forward to seeing you all.

Darrell

Unfortunately I'll be out of town on the 20th, but it would be cool to see iD get some use. I'm a pretty newbie OSM editor/contributor but I found iD to be much more approachable than, say, JOSM.

Disclaimer: MapBox is working on this editor ;-) This is a big part of the Knight Foundation grant that we got for OSM work.

For the edit-a-thon,  if people are interested in trails or campgrounds, they might want to look at some proposals from a local group, "Access Recreation."

I'd like to see if we can use their Communication Guidelines to  tag trails and campsites with slopes, difficulties, surfaces, barriers..  Of course we may not know slopes or surfaces, but if we at least figure out if this has been done, and how, it would help people who use wheelchairs know which hikes to try and which hikes to avoid.

If the trail geography is available, it's a pretty simple geo-analysis to calculate slope... trail surface, of course, is another matter.

For another outreach opportunity, BarCamp Portland is coming up this Saturday, and it would be great if someone was could lead a little intro to OSM session there.

I'm booked this weekend, but maybe someone else would be interested in giving it a shot?

Volunteers?

I was thinking about it but I'm kind of conferenced out after PyCon and there are some other things I should be working on...

What are you guys thinking for the venue?  I wasn't a big a fan of the spot we staked out last time just because we couldn't all gather around one table.

We do have our own room for this, too. It's not in the main room.

There's a screen for a projector as well (we'll have to bring our own projector, of course).
