This is probably old news to most of you, but it's the first I've
heard of it. :-)

Transitioning to the United States 2022 National Coordinate System
without Getting Left Behind

Tuesday July 28, 2020 | 3-4 pm EDT / noon – 1pm EDT

The National Geodetic Survey (NGS) has for several years been
developing - and promoting - the ongoing modernization and evolution
of the National Spatial Reference System (NSRS), toward the 2022 goal
of replacing the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83) and the North
American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). The new positioning paradigm
will better leverage the utility of modern positioning technologies -
notably the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) – and will
impact all users of geospatial data, either directly or indirectly.
This presentation will discuss the whats, whys, hows, and whens of
2022 Datum effort.

Presenters:

Edward Carlson. As the Pacific Region's Geodetic Advisor for NOAA's
National Geodetic Survey, Mr. Carlson, is the a liaison between NGS
and the Pacific which provides training, guidance and assistance to
constituents managing geospatial activities that are tied to the
National Spatial Reference System (NSRS), the framework and coordinate
system for all positioning activities in the United States. The
Geodetic Advisor serves as a subject matter expert in geodesy and
regional geodetic issues, collaborating across federal, state, county,
city, and local users to ensure that all geospatial activities are
properly referenced to the NSRS. He also serves as a primary contact
for relating user needs to NGS and NOAA plus transferring new
technical developments to local users.

Michael L. Dennis, PhD, RLS, PE is a geodesist at NOAA’s National
Geodetic Survey (NGS) where he manages the State Plane Coordinate
System of 2022 Project. He is also involved in evaluation of data
processing and survey network adjustment procedures, development of
standards and guidelines, and public outreach. Dr. Dennis is a
Professional Engineer and Surveyor with private sector experience,
including ownership of a consulting and surveying firm. He is also an
active member of several professional organizations, including the
Arizona Professional Land Surveyors Association and the Surveying and
Geomatics Division in the Utility Engineering and Surveying Institute
of the American Society of Civil Engineers

I’d not heard of it either. I guess they’re hoping the feds who are still using 1927 will just skip 1983?
