Hi All,

Is anyone thinking about attending this week's meeting?

This will be week 5 of class. As always, all the lectures for previous weeks are still available online.

If no one needs help or wishes to socialize this week, we may skip. I am without a vehicle and if weather is poor, travel will be difficult.

Thanks,

Mitch

I don't see any posting here, so no workgroup tomorrow.

Next week anyone?

 hi,
How could I find out if there another class starting up soon? I missed this one in Jan and class 5 seems too late for entry.
thanks,
Carol

If you're going for credit, you might be able to squeak in - the instructor has been pushing out deadlines, reducing penalties, and decided to not count the some of the earlier quiz/assignments at all. I wouldn't try to go for credit later than this week, though.

As far as just learning goes, the first few weeks covered a lot of tools and more basic things. I would also show up and be part of the study group anyhow, because I don't know that it will keep meeting after the live course is complete and others are likely in the same situation.

I AM way behind because I've been pretty ill for the past several weeks and have been struggling to keep up with my regular coursework at OIT, but I hope to be caught up by next week (or at least up to speed) and come to study group then.

BTW, I am new to java, as well, but I've had a smattering of languages over the past 20 years and am currently retaking all my C++ coursework at OIT, so I hope to muddle through.

I plan to take the Android class this summer at OIT, and I expect this and the next course to prepare me well. I had to drop it last summer because learning Android and java at the same time overwhelmed me.

I guess I've officially fallen into the TL:DR category, but I thought sharing where I'm at might help others take the plunge. Getting started is the hardest part. We have such an insanely diverse and supportive technical community in PDX, it's a shame to hesitate.

Jump. Do. Make.

Carol and Russell, I encourage you both to attend the meeting later today...whether you're taking the class or not (I'm not). I have yet to attend a meeting, but I did take a quick intro course from Mitch last year and we can all benefit from his knowledge and that of others. I'm slowly getting comfortable beyond the basics, but give me a couple of weeks and I should be able to complete (and publish) my 1st app.

Yes, I get that. I had to work most of the weekend and didn't get as caught up as I need to be in my OIT class. I was sick a lot earlier this year and I'm just starting to get caught up at work and school. Trust that not for that I'd have been very active - the study groups for distance learning are something I've been waiting for to happen. I knew it would at some point and I'm excited it's arrived...
