As far as just learning goes, the first few weeks covered a lot of tools and more basic things. I would also show up and be part of the study group anyhow, because I don't know that it will keep meeting after the live course is complete and others are likely in the same situation.
I AM way behind because I've been pretty ill for the past several weeks and have been struggling to keep up with my regular coursework at OIT, but I hope to be caught up by next week (or at least up to speed) and come to study group then.
BTW, I am new to java, as well, but I've had a smattering of languages over the past 20 years and am currently retaking all my C++ coursework at OIT, so I hope to muddle through.
I plan to take the Android class this summer at OIT, and I expect this and the next course to prepare me well. I had to drop it last summer because learning Android and java at the same time overwhelmed me.
I guess I've officially fallen into the TL:DR category, but I thought sharing where I'm at might help others take the plunge. Getting started is the hardest part. We have such an insanely diverse and supportive technical community in PDX, it's a shame to hesitate.
