I hope this finds you and your people all well in this unprecedented time. There's so much to say and so little to say. Oy vey. Anyway, I'm thinking of you and sending kind community vibes your way.
Reaching out on behalf of a new young person who doesn't have a lot of resources right now. I have become acquainted with a millennial queer immigrant who fled Honduras in 2019 and was detained in an ICE center this Winter. She was in time let out and granted a SSN and work permit and for the past few months has been living with a host family in Cornelius (an acquaintance of mine). She found a job working on a farm (yay! it was very hard to find a job in these times) and she is saving up for a car and for the ability to move to Portland. Her English is coming along though Spanish is much more comfortable for her for now. Her long-term vision is to get an education in construction work and she's very motivated to learn more about building, house painting, basement renovation.
If anyone here feels an urge to be a resource or mentor for her in some capacity or might be able to give her good advice about that kind of work, or (long shot!) wants to be a kind of mentor in one of those fields, or (also very long shot!) has a car to sell her cheap... or feels a pull in some other intuitive capacity with you for how to help her build queer Spanish speaking community ... please let me know and I'll put you in touch with Krizia.
The Oregon Tradeswoman website really spoke to her -- but I gather she's a bit intimated as to how to proceed there. Especially with Covid and the bus not running into Portland right now, and now that she's working, she's really just so relieved to finally have a job, she needs to stick with that for a while to save up money.
But, it would be so cool to connect her with other rad individuals, even if it's just WHatsApp for now or whatever for advice and connection. And I just thought of this awesome group here and felt a pull to reach out this inquiry.
So if you feel a sparkle reading this, lemme know.
Wishing you all good health and lots of connection,
Liz
