I would!
I am having to sell my house and not sure how long the buying of a house will take...right now we are moving into my garden ADU...and clearing and cleaning out the house. It’s a cute and very wee Sears Roebuck kit home that I have been trying to hold on to for awhile. I’ve been fighting a rat infestation for awhile also...enacting layer by layer of interventions including clearing out habitat...but the house is too old and they’ve eaten through everything just as quickly as I plug it up and it’s become unsanitary. It needs to be either gutted to the studs and reconstructed to be rat proof, or torn down at rebuilt. Once we move out, I’m gonna need to hire help to scour it and repair some things so it’ll sell for as much as I can get. I’s take housecleaning and handyperson referrals as well!
I’m probably still in shock about it all as I have permaculturely loved on this property, buried one of my placentas back there, a couple of animals, butchered my first chickens and broke my first child’s water on its ground...over the last 16 years...longest place I have ever lived! It was the “divorce house” when the couple living in the farmhouse next door divorced in 1921 and she ordered up a Sears Roebuck kit home and built is so far forward on the property to block his view (at the time) of Mt St Helens. I’m not sure why I am surprised I got divorced in this house too... :) I learned that story from our delightful western neighbors who’ve become family to us and grandparents to my kids.
One of my bigger concerns about Kenton’s development has been the style of construction chosen...suburban row homes for cars...you know the ones where the people live in the back? I hate how those front facing garages are replacing urban front porches...the detail that i’ve regularly seen encourage neighborly conversations and neighborhood interactions, especially living across from Kenton park...and the construction of those houses continues and how further vexing for me that likely when I sell this home, that a developer will likely construct those on this property...my beautiful garden and all my fruit trees...ack! BUT! The rats will be gone for the inhabitants hopefully. And maybe the view of the park will encourage the developer to build the kind of row house that has a front porch and a driveway around back...fingers crossed for my neighborhood and my neighbors!
Anyway. I currently use my outbuildings an office for my private practice/ eco therapy space, so if you know of anyone renting office space for just one or two days per week in the inner NoPo area please let me know!
Thanks for passing on the rental info Kathleen! And thanks for letting me ramble a bit about my grief y’all. Sense of place is a real thing...I know y’all get it...
Oh and lastly...before the sale goes through, I am gonna send a shout out for the gardeners to come take the plants they would like. I have a lot of sweet unique things as well as hearty standards and unless a cash buyer comes in to do a single family dwelling I imagine again this will all get bulldozed. I’ll wanna take all the plants I can and I know I won’t be able to take them all. Stay tuned!
Much love,
Keening in Kenton
