I'm playing violin in the bus stop opera this weekend. Details below…
A
team of Portland musical and theatrical talent, directed by
Pittsburgh-based artist Dawn Weleski, is taking music to the streets to
perform 10- to 30-minute operettas along Portland public transportation
routes Friday, May 14 – Monday, May 17, 2010.
The project,
called "Bus Stop Opera," includes lyrics taken from personal
conversations that the artist has had with Portland public transit
passengers in March and April. Performers will sing these
conversations-turned-lyrics in an opera. A small chamber ensemble will
accompany the singers.
During performances, audience
collaboration will be encouraged. All cast and crew will use public
transit to travel from one bus stop to the next at the completion of
each opera and may perform en route to the next performance location.
Past Bus Stop Opera performances took place in Pittsburgh and New York
City.
Bus Stop Opera is taking place in conjunction with
Open Engagement: Making Things, Making Things Better, Making Things
Worse, a symposium of social engaged art work directed by Jen Delos
Reyes,

and crew will be traveling free-of-charge throughout Portland courtesy
of TriMet,
