Michael Turri (fellow PD grad student) and I have created an exhibition and symposium as our final thesis project. There are a couple of events this Friday that I want to make sure the Stanford PD community knows about. All design nerds (PD or not) are more than
welcome at these free and public events. The subject is particularly
relevant for the PDSA audience: The
role of Design in the Business world seen through the lens of the
communications work (books, exhibits, films) the Eames Office did for
IBM back in the '50s-'70s.
We're kicking off the exhibition at a 3-hour symposium from 1-4PM this Friday, May 20th, being held at Stanford's Cantor Museum.
David Kelley will be giving opening remarks. After that we will have a range of speakers talking about the Eameses,
computer history, and what was happening in the counterculture at the time. Eames Demetrios is our keynote, and other
notable speakers include Fred Turner, head of Stanford's
communications department, and Alex Bochannek, curator at the Computer
History Museum.
The exhibition itself will open at a party from 5-8PM this Friday, the 20th. It's at LUNAR on 537 Hamilton in Downtown Palo Alto,
and there will be food and drinks - a perfect note to end the week on.
Any and all Design types are welcome to come
join us!
I have attached our official invitation, and am
happy to field any questions.

p.s. The exhibition will be open on weekdays from 11AM-1PM until June 10
for those who can't make the opening events. We will also have a couple
of weeknight parties next week, on Tuesday and Thursday. I will have more info on those in the next few days, and plan to send out a separate announcement about the parties.
