About SmartNet: In Myanmar and throughout the developing world, poor migrant people often travel into malaria endemic zones without protection from mosquitos, accelerating the spread of drug-resistant malaria. Designed in cooperation with GoodSleep Myanmar, SmartNet’s unique free-standing foldable structure makes it portable and easy to deploy in even the harshest of sleeping environments. It combines an insecticide-treated mosquito net with the sleeping mats which workers already use.
We have funding to continue our prototyping and have already made a return trip to Myanmar to get feedback on our initial prototype, but we need more manpower... so we're looking for an intern to help us for our redesign phase before our next trip (Jan 2012).
About you: We're looking for undergrads with a background in Product Design or Engineering and a passion for the developing world. Sewing skills are a plus, but we can teach you what you need to know; and since we're still iterating on our design, we want your creative input! We can pay you a small stipend, it's a great chance to prepare for Extreme, and there's a chance of travel.
