Suppress automatic creation of annotations when using tools

Hi again,

I'm using overridden (extended) versions of the textSelected and mouseLeftUp function of TextHighlightCreateTool to trap information about a new highlight and would like to suppress the automatic creation of a new annotation so as to specify an Id of my choosing, etc. and then create the annotation programatically. How might a best accomplish this?
