PDFNet .Net 2.0 - 3.5 Maintenance Announcement

For many years now PDFTron has offered two versions of PDFNet for .Net. One for frameworks 2.0 - 3.5, and another for .Net 4.0+. Our .Net 4.0 version includes additional features such as a WPF based PDF viewer.

Due to a lack of customer demand of PDFNet for .Net frameworks 2.0 - 3.5, we will no longer be adding features to that version of PDFNet. Instead, the current version, PDFNet 6.7.1, will only receive critical bug fixes. There will not be a 6.8, or later, release for .Net 2.0 - 3.5 frameworks.

This change allows us to move forward with PDFNet development on all platforms, as the last version of Microsoft Visual Studio that could create pre-.Net 4.0 builds is Visual Studio 2008, which holds back our entire code base. With this change in policy, we can move faster on improving all PDFNet versions on all platforms.

Furthermore, Microsoft support for Visual Studio 2008 is coming to an end soon, so this gives our customers who are on .Net 2.0 - 3.5, a chance to begin migration to .Net 4.0+ for continued PDFNet features.

To clarify, this announcement does not affect our .Net4+ version of PDFNet, which will continue to be improved, and receive new features.

PDFNet .Net 4+ : Will continue to receive new updates and features.
PDFNet .Net 2.0 - 3.5 : Will only receive critical patches. No new features, and no major updates.

Thank you for your understanding, and if you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to reach out to us.

A new release of PDFNet, version 6.8 will be released soon.

To give customers additional time to migrate to .Net 4, and to allow them to take advantage of recent features/improvements made to our SDK (such as additional office file conversion options) we have decided to officially release a PDFNet 6.8 for .Net 2-3.5.
