JPEG XL support in PDF / PDFium?

Hi PDFium folks,
I’m playing around with adding JXL image support to PDFium (using jxl-rs) and wanted to sanity-check the PDF spec side of things.
I have a small PoC working (mostly following the existing rust PNG code path):

Implementation-wise this looks fairly straightforward, but I’m unsure about the standards status:
Are there ongoing PDF Association / ISO discussions around this?
Has anyone already looked into this in PDFium?
how do new pdf things rain into pdfium?
I did see a recent article mentioning that the PDF Association wants to support JPEG XL going forward, but I couldn’t find any concrete draft spec text or timelines yet.
Any pointers would be much appreciated 🙂
