Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA)  Workshop

Kosmos Guest House, Pretoria

17 March 2016

HAS YOUR ORGANISATION IMPLEMENTED PAIA?

The Promotion of Access to Information (PAIA) Act came into operation during 2002 and is in line with Section 32 of the Constitution of South Africa that states that everyone has the right to the access of information.

Did you know that the exemption of having a PAIA manual and to comply with the regulatory requirements for private bodies and companies ended in December 2015?

PAIA allows and entitles individuals access to all controlled and processed information (not in public domain) that is held by both public and private companies.   Through the implementation of PAIA in the organisation, mechanisms and procedures are established and put in place for accessing information.  The PAIA Act requires organisations to publish a PAIA Manual (in at least three SA languages) that will outline the types of information that is processed and controlled, the procedure to follow to access the information, as well as contact details of the Information Officer and Deputy Information Officer and any fees payable for the duplication of requested documents.  Apart from this, the PAIA Act also requires organisations to report to the South African Human Rights Commission on an annual basis their compliance with regards to the PAIA Act.

This full day workshop will cover information that gives you invaluable insight into the legislation, some international best practice and practical application to get your company to become PAIA compliant.
