Our client, located in the greater Portland area, seeks a Database Designer.
They manufacture products destined for a global market. While the firm is
well regarded for its marketing, engineering and production capabilities
within their industry, there is much to be done to get their Information
Systems capabilities up to “best of class”.
The person chosen for this position will be part of the team engaged to
redefine the IS organization. They will be part of the core force, the brain
trust of the soon-to-be-re-engineered IS organization. While relevant
database skills are the technical abilities sought, an equally critical skill
for this position is superb communication talent, and an ability to influence
others to change. The role is not created to “babysit” the existing
scenario; it is created to significantly change the way in which IS is
structured, and how it is perceived by the user community. This will be an
individual with adept interpersonal skills who has demonstrated an ability to
“lower the level of the water” to identify problems/opportunities, to
challenge existing norms, and to get things done. It is a fast paced
environment, just short of “ready-fire-aim”.
The Database Designer will have a significant impact on evaluating and
improving the Oracle database schema and architecture. They will be one of
the lead people in designing a new corporate data warehouse and a storage
area network. This person will work in an environment with a high degree of
ambiguity. They will be: a self-starter; as effective in their socialization
and communication skills as they are with their technical skills; and
familiar with a manufacturing environment. Advanced technical database
skills, successful working knowledge with SQL Server and Oracle databases,
and data warehouse development are required. Exposure to a mixed platform
systems environment is highly desirable. While we’d prefer someone with six
or more years of progressively increasing responsibility and successful
experience, our client is willing to invest in development of an exceptional
lesser skilled candidate.
