"Department of Commerce and Labor, Bureau of Navigation, Fortieth Annual
List of Merchant Vessels Of The United States with Official Numbers and
Signal Letters and Lists of Vessels Belonging To the United States
Government with Distinguishing Signals, For the Year Ended June 30, 1908,
Washington, Government Printing Office".
This book lists every merchant vessel in the United States in 1908. It
gives their official number, signal letters, rigging, name, gross and
net tonnage, size, number in crew, when and where built, home port, and
horsepower (where applicable). Sailing, Steam, Unrigged, and Government
vessels are listed separately and alphabetically. There is also a list
of all vessels lost in the year 1908. Besides information on the vessel,
this list includes when, where, and how the vessel was lost, the number
on board, and the number of lives lost. Hard bound, 415 pages. I would
say this book is in fair condition. There is a water stain on the upper
half of the front cover, the spine is broken front and back but not
completely loose, and several pages at the front and back are tattered
along the edges. Great reference work or nautical collectible.
