College Application In-School Workshop with Yale Alumni Volunteers

4:30pm-7:00pm

Location: Kipp College Prep DC
1405 Brentwood Parkway, NE, Washington, DC 20002

  • This event, in its fourth year, is co-sponsored by the Yale Club of Washington DC, Yale Black Alumni Association-DC, and 1stGenYale.
  • Kipp DC College Preparatory, founded in 2009, "empowers students to develop the 21st-century skills necessary to pursue college, career, and choice-filled lives."

  • Background check.  All volunteers must complete this form,  https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/MTA3Mjplbi1VUw==   It is just a few questions (but you do need to put your Social Security Number). It will have chaperone as your role but that is okay.
  • Structure: Volunteers will be assigned to the following 4 sections: 1) General Common App Questions, 2) Essays, 3) Resumes, 4) Parent concerns/Full Pay schools. We expect 50 students and parents.  You will be able to sign up for the entire event or shifts.  Training will be provided.
  • Orientation: You will be assigned a station during orientation from 4:30 pm-5 pm.  Doors open at 4:15 pm. Please allow 15 minutes to clear security. If you are arriving later, proceed to the cafeteria and see Mr. Hopper for your assignment.

  • Arrival & Entry: Please bring a work identification or driver’s license. All volunteers are asked to arrive at the front of the school directly on Brentwood Parkway. (If you are dropped off in the parking lot on the back side of the building, please walk around to the front entrance.) The entrance gate will be locked, so please press the call button on the callbox, and tell security that you are a volunteer coming for the NAF Academy event. The main building entrance is through the gate, through the courtyard, and then you will need to go through security. After you pass security and the metal detector, you will be greeted by a KIPP DC staff member who will direct you where to go. Our event will be in the cafeteria which is a short walk from the entry.
  • What to bring: ID (work identification or driver’s license) and a drink. There will be food.
  • Parking: Parking at KIPP DC is quite limited, but as of now they will have space in the parking lot for us. If you are arriving for later shifts, you can secure a space nearby with https://spothero.com.
