It just keeps getting better. Along with not being able to install two
programs, I now can not go onto IE using xpmode. My computer is
running win7 professional 64 bit and I have installed Windows virtual
pc to use xpmode last year and it worked fine. When I click on the IE
icon, I get the "windows can not display the webpage" message box. I
ran the diagnosis and it's telling me the cable is not hooked up. It
is the same computer, how can that be? If it helps, here is the
diagnostic log file:

Try running the installer as an Admin (run as ...)

Went into tools/settings/network and for some reason, xpmode was
looking for the ethernet card. Changed the setting to shared NAT and
now xpmode connects to IE.

RBL: you mentioned above to run the installer as admin. Is this a
reply to mt previous question of the installer not being denied acces
due to privledges? When I'm on the GM page to try install their
program, there is no choice of how to install it. Click "install" and
it proceeds on its own until I get the access denied message then I
have to cancel the program install.

There's a "secret" super-user mode in Windows 7 that you sometimes have to use, even if you are logged in as an administrator. It has additional privs not available to any other user type. Here's how to activate it.
  1. Open an elevated command prompt: Right-click on the cmd icon and select "Run as Administrator"
  2. Type in: net user administrator /active:yes
  3. Hit Enter
  4. Close the cmd window
  5. Logoff.
  6. When you get to lohin screen, you will see the new Administrator account. NOTE: There's no password. Once you login, make sure you set a password for it via Control Panel | Users.
Don't use this account everyday use, Among the super-users additional privs, UAC is completely disabled, and IE will not run in protected mode. Do what you have to do (i.e., install an app or driver that is misbehaving), then logout and use your normal logon.

But before you do that, try this with any app that says it can't be installed due to admin issues: Right-click the app's icon and select Run as Administrator. See screen cap.
