I stopped using MSG when my sister was  treated for miagraines and her doctor took her off all prepared foods that contained any taste inhancers or preservatives. Most of my fresh veggies or other cooked foods are flavored with either only sea salt or pepper..maybe a finger pinch of fresh herbs. I love the taste of the vegetable itself. Why alter the taste of nature.

Am finally noticing growth on my new onion slips and will watch them like a hawk for signs of grasshoppers!! We had hardly any cold weather this year and the insect population will be astronomical this year here in south central Texas. Along with the drought, it's going to be a rough year to be a gardener.         Marie K

Marie,
It's good to hear that I'm not the only one who's cut WAY down on adding
flavorings to what's already tasty. You might want to consider getting away
from prepared pepper in favor of a small pepper grinder. You'll then know
exactly what's in your pepper, too. :)

Good luck with the bugs.

Peace,
Gman

Keep me informed on how your onions are doing Marie. What else are you growing? We are having drought here in CA too. SIGH We are getting a bit of rain right now, and we are sure hoping it just keeps raining and raining.

Yep...I do love my pepper grinder! Hmmmm.... does this mean that the already ground pepper has additives or something?

Although I don't have any specific reason for my suspicions other than past
performance, I have come to the conclusion that food preparing
manufacturer's care about public health. It wouldn't surprise me one bit
and I prefer to not take the chance. I do know that a certain amount of
preservative needs to be added in order to keep it from goind bad too fast
and there's probably some sort of anti-caking agent to keep it from sticking
together.

Besides, fresh ground pepper is SO much better tasting than the dulled down
processed stuff.
