Some thought provoking info that has really grabbed my interest lately.
It's the best 'solution' (actually, the only one) I have ever seen. I
thought I should share. :)

Some folks use the original Adobe Acrobat Reader, but I feel it's way too
overbloated. This is the one I use.

Speaking of----I skimmed through this and thought, "How does G have time to
study all of this stuff and still do all the computer training he does for
us?" Must have a near genius IQ!!

I have no clue what my IQ is, but I also don't believe that how a person
does on those types of tests is a true indication of how intelligent they
are. I prefer to think of IQ as more of an Imagination Quotient.

I just have an insatiable thirst for satisfying my curiosities and for
finding better ways to get things done. ;)

Being out of work and unable to find even little jobs around here to take up
some of my time sure helps.

I readily agree that the world has reached a point where we really do need
to change direction as a species and Jacque's notions about money being the
root of all evil make complete sense to me. Take away the entire concept of
money and nearly all crime will disappear almost overnight. I gave that
idea a bit of thought back in my high school days, but never took it
anywhere near as far as the Venus Project does. It never dawned on me back
then that it would make so many other good things not only possible, but
relatively easy.

I kind of relate to that insatiable curiosity. When something grabs me and
I want to learn about it, there does not seem to be enough hours in the day.
That was the way it was when I was first introduced to computers in about
l996.

Hahaha, I'm doing exactly that with this Venus Project concept. I've found
numerous videos on YouTube and GoogleVideos and have been
downloading/watching as much as I can get my freedy little hands on.

So far, I can find nothing wrong in this man's approach to solving just
about every major problem that threatens our existence. It's radical, to be
sure. But the world we now live in simply cannot be fixed by non-radical
methods. At least not when there's profit to be made from keeping things
the same.

Me too Sandi!!!! Wow.... I can't remember the year... but I was given a computer as a gift. It was little more than a word processor really... I think it used 5 1/4 floppies. Anyway... I've had several since then... I built my last one which is now on it's last legs. sigh. Although I can't afford much, I didn't want to build another one... so I've ordered one. It comes with Vista but the downgrade XP disks are included.  I had stopped backing up things because it just seemed like too much trouble to burn all those disks. So I just got an external drive, and I'm busy trying to back things up while this one is still running. sigh. What a job because my current computer has USP one, and it's slow going.

I was laid off from my floor installing job back in Nov of 07. I regularly
troll all online resources and local businesses for openings (well, 'local'
is a relative term out here in the countryside), but there's just nothing to
be had around here other than positions for which I don't qualify (bank
managers, sales, CFOs', CPA's, etc.). The biggest problem I've found is
that many people who were laid off before me (most making good money at the
time) had already scooped up all of the jobs that would have normally been
available (at a much lower wage than they were used to making). So, even
those who have been able to find work are hurting because the pay is not
enough to take care of their previous standard of living. The gov't has
extended unemployment benefits here in Michigan, but even that is about to
run out on me. I have no idea what I'm going to do when that happens.

retire, give them each $1,000,000, then give their jobs to the
unemployed--problem solved :o) BTW, did you ever say how old you are. I
have you pictured in my mind as looking like Charlie Daniels, but you can't
be old enough to look like that so please tell me I'm wrong and I'll create

Glo,
There's a picture of me at our old YahooGroups site if you want a closer
idea of what I look like. I'm 45 years old now and the picture was taken
about 15 years ago. I don't look much different other than the addition of
lots of gray weeds taking over the top of my head. lol

As for your unemployment solution, that would be a great way to help
bridge the gap between today's society and the building of the Venus
Project's concept. :)

Glo, I have wondered about this for quite a while and found out (I think)
that his birthday is in May and he is one hundred and something! I never
thought to ask straight out! So now we know. I was going to guess about

Hi Gman,
the Les Paul is a great guitar.
The only musical instament I can play is a Radio/Cd player<G>

I subscribe to HDTV and they did a feature on Eric Clapton where
he talks about his guitars.

On How's it Made they showed the Gibson factory.

Interesting enough a fellow Canadian "Neil Young" recently did a show called
"Harvest" after his original album.
In it he is playing a gutar given to him by a fan, Hank Williams Jr.

It was the last guitar that Hank Williams Sr. played.

I once got to strum an Ovation in the early 1970's.

While living in Germany while my dad was stationed there
in the mid 60's I did CBC Armed Forces Radio interviews.

I got to meet and interview a 17 year old wiz kid.
Steve Winwood.

I got to watch Les Paul play in New York about 10 years ago and then had a
relatively short discussion with him about his approach. That's one awesome
human being there! I have never met the man, but I understand that Steve
Winwood is also one heck of a personable guy. Clapton was one of my early
idols, primarily due to his approach with the Slowhand album. But that led
me to backtrack and learn all of his prior releases.

That Neil Young fact would make a great trivia question. On that note,
here's one for you. Who gave Meatloaf his big break? :)

Hmm,
would that be "Them" with Van Morrison who I saw play in a
10 table bar in Iserlone Germany playing Gloria.

I got to intervew them<G> too.

I wished I had kept my interview tapes.

I also interveiwed Roy Orbinson in London before his Royal performace
in 1966.
Kick me I sold that interview and my Roy Orbinson album collection in 1972.

As a guitar player you must have been close to Nirvana getting to meet
Less Paul

I guess you know why Clapton was called Slowhand<VBG>

Aubrey's brother had a Les Paul...thought I recognized it. I gave Aubrey's
Telecaster to our grandson and he loves it...they, too, have a very special
sound...gave him a very good bass and all the sound equipment also...Sold
all the lesser stuff...when he comes here he plays an old box that Aubrey
bought for a special show at the Jackson City Auditorium show and it is a
hollow box but darn that thing sounds off and is sweet...he keeps it strung
fresh and polished...I guess I will leave it to him also....
You sound like Aubrey with all those guitars! I had a boatload of equipment
to dispose of and would you believe, I ended up giving away most of it as it
just seemed a shame to sell a lifetime collection--the ones I gave it to
were musicians and knew how to appreciate it...

That's just it, Ann. Aubrey doesn't strike me as the type who would want
his most prized collaborators 'sold'. When it comes to favorite
instruments, they are all 'priceless' and are so much better off in the
hands of someone who will continue to make music with them than they would
ever be gathering dust all alone in a closet.

I also have 5 basses, a 10 piece drum set and a slew of percussion including
congas and timbales. My 'formative' years were spent with a highly prized
Fender Stratocaster (or just 'Strat'). A friend I once called a brother
borrowed it and sold it. He then told me that it was stolen from his car.
I found out later that was a lie. MAN, I miss that guitar, but I miss that
friend even more.

When Aubrey was 10, he saved his money (they were almost destitute as his
father had been killed in an accident when he was 8 and he was the oldest of
6 surviving siblings--one born after his father's death) and bought a little
guitar from Sears. It still hangs on the wall among the other memorabilia.
He and two of the other boys learned on that little box. One brother, the
one with the Les Paul, was a really good blues man...the younger one is the
best banjo I have ever heard...so their playing those country dances sent
all in a different direction in music. The banjo picker is the only one of
the boys left. His grandson took overall guitar against all age groups a
few years back and was awarded a really good Fender. He plays with a band
all over the country now. I gave his little brother one set of the drums
and another of the young musicians the other...he had some fine drums as
played with a big band sound many years also on drums.

He was exactly as you have him pictured...a good man who made music his life
along with family. I was the only member of the family that seemed to
understand that it was always the music. Thank God, I was able to keep him
strong enough to keep playing right up to his death...he had a show booked
for the next week when he died...he got to where he couldn't remember the
words to the songs but the music never left.

I would love to hear some of your music...God, but I miss it...Jesse is a
good musician but he is 27 now and veers in all directions and music is not
the all consuming thing to him that it was to his grandfather...He won't
sing onstage...he comes here and sings for me but I cannot get him to
perform publicly...he is not the outgoing person Aubrey was with it. And I
never had stage fright either and many times introduced the band and the
numbers.

Aubrey played with a guy for a while who told him to set them a beat they
would trip over and he had them...and that is true, as you know. When I
hear music, I don't want to hear it with my ears, I want to hear it through
my whole being and become one with it..That my friend is music...

That is absolutely true of ANY Art. If the artist is doing it for money,
fame, recognition or any other exterior motive, it's not art. The thing is,
it takes a true artist to create something that can span the ages and reach
more folks than one would get with any other approach. The deeper one
reaches within, the more they will find to share with the rest of the world.

I couldn't handle that kind of hot weather. As a redhead, I'm somewhat sun
sensitive. I really enjoy working outside in nice weather, but I can only
do so much before I need to get out of the sun and cool off, and that's
talking about 80 degrees as the high for that day.

We are back home after sports events and H.S. graduation for Max. Max wants
a guitar---a really good one as he plays in a Praise Band at Church and
wants to continue with music when he goes to college next Fall. And, guess
what, he has been looking at Fenders. I know next to nothing about music
and instruments but that caught my attention! Max has been working hard and
saving his money so I think he can manage the purchase. He just wants to be
very careful to get the right one.
I felt for you as you spoke of loosing your prized guitar but mostly for the
loss of your friend. My worst hurts over the years have been at the hands
of friends, most unintentional, and nothing to compare with what you
experienced. but, of course, the hurt is deeper just for that reason--it
was a dear friend.
I told Max about what happened to you so I think he will be very careful
with his guitar once he gets it.
Tired now--but tomorrow I want to tackle that driver thing for sound.

I'm so glad to hear that Max is interested in investing into his music. In
retrospect, my playing/learning was really hindered before I got my Strat.
The guitar itself wasn't really anything special, just a high gloss jet
black body with a maple neck, but I learned so much faster on it than I ever
could have on the old Epiphone I had been working with up to that point. It
also freed up my cheap Epi so I could experiment with guitar electronics
without messing up my 'main ride'. I learned so much about customizing
those electronics that I ended up designing lots of different setups (each
with distinct signature sounds) and started a side business working on other
musician's guitars & basses. Years later, I used that knowledge to get my
foot in the door at Hoshino, USA, which is the manufacturer of Ibanez
guitars & basses as well as Tama drums (and a host of other top musical gear
brands). I was hired in as the Assistant Warehouse Manager at the Bensalem,
Pa. plant in charge of distribution throughout the US. Part of that job
entailed training folks how to properly set up guitars and basses prior to
shipping out to stores. I attribute all of that to the decision to buy a
Strat back in high school. :)

If he ever wants advice on anything musical from someone who's been through
it already, feel free to give him my addy.

Peace,
Gman
