Hey Gman.... I sent this to the computer list, but I never saw it come in. Seems like I had that trouble before. SIGH... but I can't remember what I did... or what I was supposed to do about it.

Hope you have an answer to this question for me.

Does anyone know what I should do to get MP4 to play on Vista?

Maya I'm not G, I can give you the advice he gives with this problem.
A program called VLC
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Nice little thing, it can handle most anything you throw at it.

Should also have said that VLC works with Vista and Windows 7 which I'm running now.

I received your 'regular' group post and replied with what Steve suggested
here. Maybe we should focus on why you're not getting any of the posts from
the regular group. Since it arrived here and we haven't had any bounce
reports from your addy, I have to assume that either your ISP or your own
security software is blocking stuff from the group.

Do you normally get messages from the main group?
Do you ever get the feeling that you're not getting all of them (not
counting the ones you send &/or replies to those)?
Does Comcast supploy its customers with a Spam catching program or function?
Is there a web-based interface you can check to see if there's a Spam or
Junk folder there that's grabbing these things?

Peace,
Gman

Well this sure surprised me. sigh.  I was getting all the mail in the regular group... or so I thought. Then coming up to the holiday the mail just stopped, and then people sent a few test mails. So I thought... everyone must be busy or not having problems.  I got a few mails in the regular group yesterday... and I think one today. So I don't know.  I'm using windows mail. I looked in the blocked senders and junk mail... but nothing was blocked except a couple of things I did myself.

What can I do now? Should I got to the Comcast web site and see if there's a way to do something from there?

I mostly just lurk in the regular group... I rarely participate... but seems like this happened once before when I sent mail to the regular group.  I hope it's an easy fix. sigh

Maya, there just hasn't been much mail the past few days (in the regular group), maybe 2 one day and 4 the next--today was big, 6 emails!  It'll pick up again, I'm sure.  In the meantime I can use the extra time to go thru what I saved and sort it out.  ~Glo

Nothing at all came through the group on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 6th of this
month. All around that same time period, the average had been around 5
posts per day, with some a little more, some less. The 8th of this month
was much more active, however.

How closely does the above mirror what you've been receiving from the main
group, Maya?

Gman

Thanks Glo... that sounds about right for me.

Oh man.... I could use a ton of extra time. I put off so many things. Hope you got something done.

Gman,

I think that's pretty much what I got. I don't seem to have a problem getting mail from others in the group... but when I send mail to the main group, it doesn't come back to me. Apparently the replies to my mail don't come either.

It may just be that Comcast has adopted what Gmail has been doing all along.
Specifically, the server doesn't send your own posts back to you, assuming
that you already know what's in them. I have gotten used to not seeing my
own posts (oddly enough, some of them do sneak through for some reason). As
long as you're getting what appear to be all of the replies, there's
probably not much we can do about it from here.

I just realized that you also said that replies to your posts don't come
back to you, either. Did you receive the reply from me to your recent
attempt?

No... I didn't receive your reply to the mail I sent to the main group. sigh.

I sure don't understand. I always receive my mail I send to my groups... except for PCTechTalk.
Do you think I should try posting again to see what happens?

I sent it two days ago and the contents are below.

VLC Media Player handles everything I've ever thrown at it, including MP4.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

If you didn't get that one, go ahead and post one with a subject of
'Test' and the words 'testing my incoming server. Please reply to this to
help with the test' in the body. You're bound to get several replies to it
and we can see how many you actually receive.
