I have a Presario (mod S5300NX) that had a PATA motherboard and drives
(hard and optical.) I need to change out the motherboard and CPU. I
mostly see SATA motherboards out there on the market. Is there any way
I can use a SATA motherboard and my PATA drives together?

If not, where is a good place to get an inexpensive combo PATA
motherboard and CPU? I only have this computer in my classroom for my
grade 3 kids to use... so there is no gaming or anything that needs a
fancy CPU.

Thanks,

Dave

Hello Dave,

Most motherboards with SATA also includes one of the older PATA ports,
where you can attach up to two devices. Additionally to that, a floppy
port is also included. PATA ports are also identified as IDE/ATA,
which is what you can use to cross reference with the specs of the
motherboards.

Please note that older OS's, don't come with ability to boot up or
even install the OS to a SATA drive. Some even lack the SATA drivers
to be able to access SATA devices. Some motherboards come with a build
in BIOS that allows the SATA to emulate a PATA driver, which may
circumvent the ability to access SATA, but may or may not allow you to
install the OS.
